Bug I think my game is possessed. [Epilepsy Warning?]

So, yeah, I've got this graphical bug. Everything more than ~50 meters away from me while I'm in build mode is coated in rapidly shifting blood red patterns.

It goes away when I go near it, but it returns as soon as I retreat.

This would be a perfect effect for horror scenarios. Just imagine it suddenly starting to happen slowly and then build up over time while you are exploring a dead ship.

Windows 8.1 64 bit.

ASUS laptop, model N56JN. Intel i7-4710HQ processor at 2.5 GHz (8 CPUs). 8192 MB of RAM. GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce 840M, 4020 MB.

Here's my setings.cfg. What is "grafcisinfo.txt" and where is it located? I couldn't find anything named that (or similarly named) in my SM files.

but it isnt happening for me with your settings.
things that come to mind here
1. are you sure it runs on your dedicated GPU and not on the iGPU of your CPU ?
(good indication is the Grafcisinfo.txt here)
2. the download broke for what ever reason and the texture sheets are broken some how.
download the last zip file from this list http://files.star-made.org/build/ and copy its content over your starmade install replacing everything that may be broken in this case.
3. your hardware is dying (i hope not)
