So, would hiring a NPC make it possible to put them in a squad that you're in charge of, like a small/medium fighter you're piloting with 2 to 3 wingmen? And would it be possible to have 1 of them join you when you patrol an abandoned ship/station/planet base while the other 2 patrol the sector around the ship/station/planet base?

And would inner ship PvP, astronaut mode, have anything like power suits/armor and new weapons like beam sabers to promote more experience on boarding and taking over ships/stations/planet bases

So will the Starmade have a "chain of command" to help you control your empire.

    The hype is real!
[DOUBLEPOST=1446521226,1446519359][/DOUBLEPOST]Okay, I just used Speakonia to dictate it to me, because it was easier than reading. I have a question, will you be able to skin NPCs? So you can easily tell from a distance if the NPC is in your faction, or where they should be or what their job is. I imagine that it'd be harder, and kinda boring, if every NPC wore the same clothes and looked the same.

This. Being able to apply skins to your NPC's would be awesome for identification purposes and incredible for RP. If I'm cruising around the galaxy in my Wraith Cruiser, I'd really like to have my NPC's dedicated to patrolling the ship look like Wraith Soldiers, and the NPC's manning stations to look like Wraith Scientists.

Or if I'm running around on the Voyager I want to be able to see the whole crew and tell them which nebulas have coffee in them. :p

One question, will a camera type system be implemented? (not like the current one ) where you could say link cameras up to a camera computer and link display modules to the computer which would output an image to the display, this would make for a more realistic feel when in a ship sitting on a chair while watching your ship fly forwards while having the extra protection due to the command room being sat in the middle of the ship

Id' just skip adding a block and directly connect a given camera to a given display module or group of them.

Loading multiple camera perspectives at once is extremely resource intensive.

Is it the same level of resource intensive if the additional screen is resolved at a much lower level of resolution? Even a highly pixelated screen would suffice for immersion, given how we are accustomed to blockiness in the game anyway.

We'd need to test before making any determinations.

Well I think that you guys have a real winner here in Starmade. My children were very heavy into Minecraft for a couple years and one of them spent quite some time trying out various space themed mods. I found this game for them after letting them try Eve for a bit (I had played it quite a bunch a few years ago). Eve's timegate was much too large a barrier to play and its space was much too devoid of players to hold their interest. For one of the children Starmade is pretty much what he wanted in this type of game. He always had a thing for cargo ships so your cargo space update will be a step in the right direction for him. For the other he prefers more first person shooter games so he would enjoy seeing some sort of first person shootout through the halls of the pirate space station after the ships knock out its defences. Mutiny sounds like a step in the right direction for him. And me I was kinda surprised to see how much I enjoyed this game perhaps even more than them. Just loving tinkering with your building aspect. Oh and mining. When I tried your astroid mining my first thought was wow. This is how mining should have been in Eve. I will recommend this game.

Hey Bench, I asked this earlier, and I'm sorry for being a parrot, but; will the NPCs be skinnable? Or at least be able to design clothes for them so we can tell who is supposed to be where.

I'd say somehow they would be, whether through you as a player or through them just auto-having a random skin when the npc was generated. Would be pretty lame if your whole crew looked exactly like default Dave.

Allowing players to skin the NPCs they've hired would make the planned 'Global Skins' feature much more lucrative for you, and much more attractive for us.

This could be done by splitting up the texture into two parts:

    1. A uniform texture
    2. A head/face texture, possibly including customized emblems (like rank marks) to overlay on top of the uniform.

That way, you can have your crew be assigned your uniform texture. Or, potentially share a uniform texture with other faction members for that matter.
