with all the transporter talk I thought I'd make my suggestion as to how to keep interiors relevant.

Basically it would be to add an illness system to the game. Such a system could be used for alien diseases or other things but Transporter psychosis would be condition where, after transporting to often in a given time-frame negative effect would start to manifest. Hallucinations (seeing ships or planets that aren't there, or not seeing ones that are.) Dizziness, nausea, tunnel vision and blackouts. The more a player keeps using the transporter the worse the effects. Players would slowly recover by not using the transporter for a while. Using a medical kit would ease the symptoms for several minutes.

The goal here isn't to nerf the transporter, but to de-incentivize excessive use of the transporter. It it ripping you apart at the molecular level.

You know since the rail update, I still use plex doors and blast doors. I still use advanced armor block after the shield buff and I still use shields after armor was buffed. I see no evidence of any whole scale abandonment of feature once new ones come online. Interiors will be relevant to the same people who they have always been relative to. Interiors will be needed for crew and still needed for RP and repair/service access. STOP TRYING TO PRE-NERF EVERYTHING AND FORCING EVERYONE TO BUILD THE F**KING TAJ MAHAL ON EVERY BLOODY SHIP.

    WORST IDEA EVER.

I'm not saying you can only transport every 20 minutes. Numbers would of course be up to balancing. I'm talking about excessive use. And it doesn't even prevent you from doing it it just starts adding effects if you keep using transporters rather than walking around your ship.

I have to agree with Groovrider
Shuttles still have their place, transporters will also have theirs. Cargo update will also combat the one-sidedness of the transporter, Plus we're not even sure the final limits of the Transporter Schine has in mind. If you're going to suggest a nerf, wait a few major updates to see what comes out, and if a trend appears that shuttles are abandoned then make a suggestion, let the transporter take it's place and the "Oh! New Feature!" hype die down to see where the pond settles, if it needs a lock then add one.

I think this sounds like a really fun mod. With that said, I don't think we should have psychological effects in the vanilla game. However, with a mod, I want to be able to get space madness. Don't touch my ice cream bar!

Just wait for the API when most of the major elements fall into place, we'll have that mod for you.

Whatever you can say against this idea, this is DEFINITELY 1000% better than the idea of straight up-disallowing transporting within the same entity.

If you're not playing the game the way I play the game, then you are wrong. I must do everything in my power to change the game to force you to play exactly like I do, which is the One True Way.

I wasn't suggesting this to keep shuttles relevant but to make transporters as a mean of moving around your own ship less desirable.

I'm not saying this is the best way or even a good way, just thinking :)

And that's exactly what's needed. There's no reason someone would be taking a transporter every 60 seconds for 10 minutes straight, for example.

It would help if there were a suitable alternative.

Walking across a 500m long ship on foot isn't desirable, and the current physics engine doesn't allow for a convienent horizontal rail car that you can just walk into and press a button. Even if it did, the fastest rail speed is still pretty slow. Gravity tubes are an option, but they are a very ugly, dirty way to move around that completely breaks the immersion feel that you are trying to create by having interior space in the first place.

If people start flocking to transporters and abandoning all other methods of movement within a ship/station, it has less to do with the transporters being the problem and more to do with there not being any attractive alternative.

I agree. The system seems fine right now, because, chances are most people will continue building ships with normal interiors, not instantly change to faction-only teleporters.

I agree rail elevators are way too slow. They were already too slow compared to grav lifts and needed balancing. And 500m ships are big enough I would have a transporter system at either end. But I've already had a friend suggest we add a transporter to every room in our station rather then use our rail elevator. I believe every method should have pros and cons, in ship transporters seem to have only pros atm

Transporter Psychosis is a really neat idea that i would like to see. I don't see it as an extreme nerf to transporters, i just see it as a way to facilitate and ensure balance. something tha i would find cool is a longer transport time. while you are being transported, somebody could destroy the transporter, teleporting to any random teleporter in the galaxy.
