Is something stopping people from selling their work as it is right now? Is it against a eula somewhere?

There's no backing from Schine, someone could easily rip you off. People could also easily redistribute the blueprints people sold.

I would say the problem is the business method then. If there is no legal reason preventing it, I see nothing stopping people from negotiating for their labor in creating a ship and selling it to the person who commissioned the work. If the person who commissioned the work then releases it to the wild, they just devalued their item, which they should be free to do. If your work is worth the money then it is worth it up front.
Copyrights and patents only feed the lawyers. I'd like to keep the lawyers out of starmade, so any transactions that are occurring are between 2 private parties and no one else. Hopefully it doesn't get so bad where you're paying royalties on a cheeseburger you ate because its part of your body now, and you owe the artist burger flipper for every use of the molecules the burger contained. That burger flipper's on the hook to, as he owes the spatula maker for every burger he flips.

So it'd basically be like paid steam mods? The base idea wasn't bad, but look at what ended up happening. It was also way too abusable.

Human nature, my friend. You can't ignore that.

Absolutely no. SM would be going the way of EA if this happens. And everyone in their right mind knows how much of a rip-off EA games are.

The issue with Steam mods was that you could steal someone else's mod easily. The way I've described it, you'd need to copy the entire thing by hand. Would some people try and do it? Probably, if real life art forgery is anything to judge by. But it'd be rare and easy to spot.

How would this be going the way of EA? EA doesn't let their playerbase sell their creations.

This would have serious ramifications for multiplayer considering the issue of ownership, if some noob does not faction his newly bought capital ship and then gets it stole for instance. How do we protect the blueprint of the stolen ship?

Add metadata to purchased ships that prevents saving the BP or copypasting it.

In case there's any miscommunication here, this would NOT sell you a full ship. This would just sell you access to the BLUEPRINT of a ship, which would still require blocks to fill.

I'm sorry, but this is the single worst idea anyone has ever posted here.
    Ever.

(Sorry I made this on a whim.)
Seriously though, Starmade can't be a job and it never will (Save the Schine Team), and this is even worse than the paid Skyrim Mods.

This access to a blueprint would be determined on a server basis or a validated player account basis?

Validated player account. You wouldn't lose access to a BP just because you moved servers. It'd be stored on a server controlled by Schine, and you'd be able to use it on any server that allows you to upload blueprints.

So far the only two reasons that've shown this to be a good idea, is that Edymnion gets to be selfish and makes his ships cost, and that Schine gets a cut of that. Providing more money to Schine is always a good thing, but the way in which it's happening is bullshit. And I don't care for Edymnion's ego.

So, present a reason that actually benefits the community or the game in any way, because so far you've failed to do so.

How does this prevent players from building ships? If anything, this would encourage people to build more ships of their own, because there'd be less variety of ship to just download.
    Lawyers...

Evidence disagrees. There will always be people putting up things for free, either to promote their paid work or just because they want to share something with the community without wanting paid for it. Free mods didn't vanish when Steam Paid Mods became a thing, people in real life still give people things for free.
But will people see the free stuff? No. Because the market will be flooded by giant purple dicks up for 2 dollars.

...And different ship hulls aren't "aesthetic skins?" What's the difference between a 100k block ship with 20 million armor that's a grey rectangle and a 100k block ship with 20 million armor that has actual hull work put into it? Nothing. It's solely aesthetic.
One has fancy shapes and decorations and systems will have to be placed differently, and will create a difference in stats.

These answers are extremely basic/short, yes, but notice that this is happening with this particular subject.

StarMade is still available to everyone for free and you guys discuss about microtransactions for content created by the community of a building game?
I understand the concept about paying for global skins slots as they are completely not related to the gameplay at all. But paying for stuff that is in direct relation to the game? NO.

Maybe people that upload blueprints could get money from ads. Before you download a blueprint you have to watch a advertisement, like some other games.

    Nice strawman

Allowing people to earn money for their work, and giving Schine extra money to spend on things like "hiring additional coders or artists" isn't benefiting the community and game?

Lawyers prevent you from building whatever you want? No, they don't. They prevent you from selling copyrighted items, but that isn't preventing people from building them in the slightest.

But will people see the free stuff? No. Because the market will be flooded by giant purple dicks up for 2 dollars.

    Was that really that hard?

Decorations weigh almost nothing, and fancy shapes still contribute to armor HP. The only systems where being arranged differently would have any large effect would be power reactors and capacitors, and it'd be pretty easy to keep those the same between the brick and the fancy ship. Minor differences in system strength will NOT change the course of a battle, regardless. That comes down to pilot ability more than anything.

To draw a final conclusion about this suggestion. Lecic thinks it´s a good idea and everyone else hates it. I think we can let this thread die.
