Is something stopping people from selling their work as it is right now? Is it against a eula somewhere?
There's no backing from Schine, someone could easily rip you off. People could also easily redistribute the blueprints people sold.Is something stopping people from selling their work as it is right now? Is it against a eula somewhere?
The issue with Steam mods was that you could steal someone else's mod easily. The way I've described it, you'd need to copy the entire thing by hand. Would some people try and do it? Probably, if real life art forgery is anything to judge by. But it'd be rare and easy to spot.So it'd basically be like paid steam mods? The base idea wasn't bad, but look at what ended up happening. It was also way too abusable.
Human nature, my friend. You can't ignore that.
How would this be going the way of EA? EA doesn't let their playerbase sell their creations.Absolutely no. SM would be going the way of EA if this happens. And everyone in their right mind knows how much of a rip-off EA games are.
Add metadata to purchased ships that prevents saving the BP or copypasting it.This would have serious ramifications for multiplayer considering the issue of ownership, if some noob does not faction his newly bought capital ship and then gets it stole for instance. How do we protect the blueprint of the stolen ship?
This access to a blueprint would be determined on a server basis or a validated player account basis?Add metadata to purchased ships that prevents saving the BP or copypasting it.
In case there's any miscommunication here, this would NOT sell you a full ship. This would just sell you access to the BLUEPRINT of a ship, which would still require blocks to fill.
Validated player account. You wouldn't lose access to a BP just because you moved servers. It'd be stored on a server controlled by Schine, and you'd be able to use it on any server that allows you to upload blueprints. This access to a blueprint would be determined on a server basis or a validated player account basis?
Lawyers...How does this prevent players from building ships? If anything, this would encourage people to build more ships of their own, because there'd be less variety of ship to just download.
But will people see the free stuff? No. Because the market will be flooded by giant purple dicks up for 2 dollars.Evidence disagrees. There will always be people putting up things for free, either to promote their paid work or just because they want to share something with the community without wanting paid for it. Free mods didn't vanish when Steam Paid Mods became a thing, people in real life still give people things for free.
One has fancy shapes and decorations and systems will have to be placed differently, and will create a difference in stats....And different ship hulls aren't "aesthetic skins?" What's the difference between a 100k block ship with 20 million armor that's a grey rectangle and a 100k block ship with 20 million armor that has actual hull work put into it? Nothing. It's solely aesthetic.
Not entirely sure what you mean. It could possibly meant to be AIDs, but where's the fun in that? :p
Nice strawmanSo far the only two reasons that've shown this to be a good idea, is that Edymnion gets to be selfish
Allowing people to earn money for their work, and giving Schine extra money to spend on things like "hiring additional coders or artists" isn't benefiting the community and game? So, present a reason that actually benefits the community or the game in any way, because so far you've failed to do so.
Lawyers prevent you from building whatever you want? No, they don't. They prevent you from selling copyrighted items, but that isn't preventing people from building them in the slightest.Lawyers...

Decorations weigh almost nothing, and fancy shapes still contribute to armor HP. The only systems where being arranged differently would have any large effect would be power reactors and capacitors, and it'd be pretty easy to keep those the same between the brick and the fancy ship. Minor differences in system strength will NOT change the course of a battle, regardless. That comes down to pilot ability more than anything. One has fancy shapes and decorations and systems will have to be placed differently, and will create a difference in stats.
I shall only quote myself on this:Nice strawman

Was that really that hard?

These answers are extremely basic/short, yes, but notice that this is happening with this particular subject.
And your point here is... what, exactly?I shall only quote myself on this:
