Random planets

    It seems a shame that in a procedural universe there has to be only five planet types, Why not have a massive selection of different grayscale textures, and then colorize them with random RGB values, As well as a random sky color too,

    Because that's too simple and will be easily spotted by just about everyone. If you're going to have unique planets, then you need to have them physically unique rather then just have different colours.

    Eh, the terrain engine can do about the same thing... There can be base variables (Terrain noise, height scale, cave density, cutout (Amount of points at which the engine cuts out caves/cliffs from hills and surface features), etc.) that are randomized, then a random special feature (Tentacles, towers, etc.) can sometimes be added.

    I... don't find that our current system supports planets large enough (Within reasonable performance expectations, anyway; planets at like 800 radius would work decently except for the fact that most people's computers would die upon encounter) to have climactic zones/biomes without looking silly, but yes, mountains should probably be changed so that they're partially exposed rock and (on some planets) part ice at the top.

    Because that would cause a massive amount of lag, presuming I'm not misreading and you do infact mean the terrain blocks.

    As well as a random sky color too,
    This I would like to see, however.

    I do mean the terrain blocks, I just meant that there would be a selection of multiple to choose from.

    We could always just pull the spare damage values for the surface terrain to determine overlays, like what was done to put ores in rocks...
