most of the time when you exit a core it exist to the closest place
except if the closest place is backwards:

you expect me to pop out right there,
instead, I pop out through a wall out my interior......
if I place some blocks there, I will pop up under my interior.....
if I place even more blocks I will pop up behind my interior.....

    please change it.

    Thank you for reporting.
We have a issue for this in the line to be fixed.

T278: Leaving a C aligned ship causes issues with searching a safe exit position

However, there needs to be a "default first search" direction.
So changing it would break other constructs that adapted the way its done now.

For a long time, it was "below" the core, and I think it still is the first direction to look.
The most common idea, to place the core in sort of a pillar in the ship,
with space around it, turned out to be the best working solution.
The other good option is a "ceiling mounted" core.

Yes this may result in some unforseen exit points, but having a reliable order, is good to plan your ship with.
Changing it will fix your ship, but break others that played around with "core-room-designs".
