Look mate, your personal feelings about some other drama which I simply don't care about it (no offence, I just don't) does not give you an excuse to be rude!

I've yet to formulate my own opinions in the HP system so I won't comment on my views toward it, but it winds me up immensely to see post like this after every update, slagging off the devs and calling their work pointless. They have a lot more patience than me because if I had put that much work into a game and got this kind of response every time I would have told everyone where they could stick their game and gone to the pub...

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great to formulate opinions that disagree with the games decision and direction. And to voice those decisions. But there is no excuse at all for it to be done in an insulting manner

Actually to disable a ship at some point seems abselutely necessary to me in terms of game mechanics.
If i am shooting at a ship i can more or less tell if it's done for, but the AI is not capable of that. It needs something to define a target as dead so it knows when it can stop shooting.
Also, a deactivated ship despawns after reltively short time. If not, servers could have these hulks flying around for hours or days, while tacking up unnecessary resources.
That's a good mechanic! And it's one we already have - when a ship is deactivated/overheated/utterly demolished, it is immediately dead in the water. There is then the despawn timer that is based on the size of the ship.

The issue is the pointless disable mechanic BEFORE the ship hits the *utterly destroyed* threshold. What's the point? I'd assume that by the time the ship gets to that stage, you can't honk the horn.

These aren't personal feelings. Not at all. These opinions are based off of evidence that indicates DoR and WedTM are attempting a massive cash grab before trashing Starmade and walking away. Just like they did with that CubeWorld game. I don't trust them and you should not either. Not because I "feel" they're doing it wrong, but because there is evidence that indicates they are attempting to get as much money as they can from Starmade before they bury it. I was as outraged as you when I first heard this - "You've gotta be kidding. Are you high?" were my exact words when I was told.

I would never call SCHEMAS work pointless. That man knows his stuff and I am always amazed at what he pulls off with the Java language. However, I also have little patience for a company that refuses to plan for the future. I'd also like to help out - but I have a better chance of seeing a flying unicorn when I wake up tomorrow then being invited to contribute at Schine.

    You are right.

That said, I'm still laughing my ass off that this got past the testing stage. I mean, who even tests anymore besides the Schine team and the veterans?

I have a suggestion that might fix this. This isn't my idea
Multiply HP systems, one for each system e.g power, shield etc.
There could still be a total Hp for ships that decrease as it does now but if it is below 50% hp it doesn't cause the ship to not work. Instead with the hp of one of the systems is below 50% health then all the systems blocks of that type left efficiencies is halved so the system would work at 1/4 the power at full health

This is a good idea, but it's already naturally built into the game. If you lose 50% of your power system, you lose at least 50% of the power regen because the blocks are just gone. That's the beauty of it.

Hey there, I would like to remind you that Starmade's demo is free :D

There are plans. I have to admit, Schema has a better idea on what he wants then the rest of us. Tell you what. Take a look at the public roadmap. Now multiply the number of features listed there by 4 and you will have an idea as to how much we want to see put in the game. Its not all public yet of course and it is likely that list will change for better or worse. We only want to reveal upcoming changes. Going too far into the future and we might have to drastically change things, much to the dismay of the player who wanted those features. Between now, and the next feature, everyone is talking. There are debates. Problems are brought up. We hope that we are solving them.

I'm still laughing my ass off that this got past the testing stage
Well, it is an alpha. It was in the dev build as well. We don't want to base our decisions on what looks good on paper. When the features fail to please the community, who now get to test it, then we can adjust it. Not enough of us play on the dev build to give feedback like that.

Not quite, if you build your systems right everything else should drop proportionally. So there's actually no downside to simply losing blocks if you lose them proportionaly. Of course that doesn't happen if you just clump systems together.

Which means what, exactly? What's your point? Last time I checked you can buy it on Steam and on this website for ten bucks. Not all chose to do so, but I'm willing to bet it was a lot less before the Steam release.

There are plans, eh? Show me. I'll believe that when we have them in writing. The roadmap is not a plan - it's a wishlist. Development is like a river, not a train track. You can't put it on rails. (oho! a wild pun appears! :D)

The last person to bring up the fact that Schine has little to no plan for the future was Tomino_sama. He got removed from the Council for doing so on a trumped up excuse. I expect the same for me if I get elected to the council.

You don't have to go "too far" into the future, Criss. You just need a goal. "Starmade should be (list of things), here's WHY." Then you can go through the features you need for that goal. Suddenly we cut through all the crazy (and usually cool) community ideas. Suddenly, the process isn't hazy - it's crystal clear.

Not quite, if you build your systems right everything else should drop proportionally. So there's actually no downside to simply losing blocks if you lose them proportionaly. Of course that doesn't happen if you just clump systems together.
Isn't that like saying your ship is just a smaller onion when it gets bits taken off? I'm not sure exactly how your server's combat works, but the last testing I did in a live fire scenario, the ship wasn't peeled like an onion. It was gutted like a coconut. It was fairly random, actually.

And so we come down to the problem at hand.

You're upset that your god-emperor was held accountable for lying about his availability on the council application and intentionally blocking progress, and you're taking it out on Schine, I take it.

No point continuing this thread past this point, guys, we're not going to convince him that Schine and the council aren't evil, or that these features have been wanted for the past few years.

Here's a snippet from Reddit, posted by Crusade, who is Schine's hired 3d model artist:

"This post is to find the importance of 3D decoration/furniture assets.

Would you like to see 3d assets in Starmade? This includes 3d furniture, screens, and other things.

What level of importance do 3D decoration assets have? What assets would you like to see? What function could they serve? How 'fitting' is it for Starmade?"

I'd like to know why he needs to know the importance of his own job. No offence to Crusade - I'm sure he does great work. My question is why he doesn't already have a direction and a plan for those models he's making. This post is just further proof that Schine is not developing Starmade with a cohesive plan.

Schine as been getting bigger recently it got two casual developers.
True. I heard Schema is training two programmers to help him with the workload. This is old news, so they are probably trained by now :D

That's a lie. And that's all I'm going to say about it, because I've seen the logs and Tom has posted the evidence. You just need to go see it for yourself. It's out there.
    uhhhhhh...

You do realize he's not Schine staff, right?
    WOOPS.

Sorry. I saw Saber's name on that post earlier - not sure why. Weird. I'll correct the posts.

The roadmap is not a plan
Well I'm not sure what more you want really. We put the roadmap up because players wanted to know what was next. What to expect. Ship HP system was on there. New chat controls was on there. Fauna has been in the works for a while, and its on the planned part of the roadmap. I cannot give you any more than that. That is what is planned. That is whats coming.

    You just need a goal
To provide the best dang science fiction game next to leading titles like space engineers, and the upcoming no mans sky? Watch the trailer. It tells you everything we want. A lot of this game is for the player to decide. They don't have to engage in faction warfare, but its there for players that do. Honestly, having seen the features that we want, I have literally no fear for this game going in the wrong direction. It may not be perfect when the patch rolls out, but we have time to fine tune things. This is still a small group of people taking on a lot of work.

I will bring it up with the others, but really. What we have said before, and what is on the roadmap is what we want, and what is being worked on. It cannot be any clearer.

Tom only posted half of the logs, mate.

You honestly expect a narcissist to be honest when his reputation is on the line?

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the incremental nerfs to systems based on HP.
Pretty much its a race to that 90% mark, first one there loses if their ship isn't designed with power redundancy and hardening in mind.
Which in a way I suppose is a good thing, if you get some reactor lines cut and hit the 90% mark you're pretty much dead in the water anyway.

I do love the armour and structure HP system though.

He's not a narcissist. He's a gaming enthusiast who has dedicated the past two years of his spare time to Starmade. The Council thing was the last straw in a long line of BS that has been coming from DoR and crew for a while now. And he posted the half of the logs he had. The rest are locked up tight by the council. Good luck getting them to release the stuff they deleted or altered.

This is a hope, a dream. Not a goal. A goal can be measured.

The fact that you consider No Man's Sky a success already really concerns me. The game had not shown a lick of gameplay demos until last week. It's mostly hyperbole. What are you basing that success on? Popularity? Good marketing?

That was before BeetleBear got ejected - which was well before my time. :(

Good post. I remember it from a few months ago. :D

What are you basing that success on?
The hype surrounding it. It's hard for people to play two games at once. If it isn't a success, there will still be a lot of sales. That can be good or bad. Players would be encouraged to find an alternate, or discouraged to continue searching. Who knows? Just things to consider I suppose.
