Watching the video i was under the impression the torch would damage only the core, but it damages every block on a ship, is that suppose to do that?

How did you expect to get to the core then?

I can imagine now all the problems we'll see happen with people abusing this new torch/boarding feature to steal other people's ships with such ease when they're not online.

Now having it factioned is meaningless, as people can always circumvent faction control by using the torch.

To be fair, it takes a damn long time to break into ships with the torch, and the only guarantee of ship protection has *always* been homebase docking.

That's exactly what the problem is. Since the only way to guarantee ship protection is to have it docked to a homebase, people who join servers now will need to have their own faction out of necessity, just to protect their ships from getting stolen. That's just wrong.

Time doesn't matter if the person you're stealing from is offline.

Stick a turret around the core and set it to target astronauts. Add 2 and suddenly you need more than a single person to steal a ship.

It's always been that way. This just gives people another tool for it.

That doesn't work unless your ship has a large core room for space for rail turrets.

My biggest problem with the torch is that it means a brand new player who joins a server can easily steal any un-homebase-docked ship, be it a titan or a small frigate, with relative ease.

It's always been that way. This just gives people another tool for it.
Well it's wrong. Ever notice how many single-person factions there are on public servers? The faction board is literally spammed to the brim with them. It's awful and it needs to stop.

The torch has nothing to do with that issue.

What we'd need are personal homebases and small sector claims for single players.

All you need for a PD turret is 3x3x3, I dont expect you need much bigger for anti-personnel turrets. Welcome to alpha, were you should expect to have to refit your ships quite a few times (if you're lucky, you wont lose any).

Interior turrets. They added a new mode for targeting astronauts

In all honesty it would be best to have a special 3D model interior turret. Since the blow torch bypasses shields it would be simple to take out given the right positioning and planning.

A machine gun turret or missile turret should make short work of an astronaut, without needing too much space. You could also try hiring NPC guards?

    This is all correct.

You can also put anti-personnel turrets on the exterior of the ship or anywhere else you have any space. Killing them is not impossible, but it is probably very difficult. You can also booby trap ships with damage pulse or anything else that suits your fancy.

That was already true. Someone could just shoot at your ship until it dies, for griefing or to actually steal the ship, if it wasn't homebase protected... Ever since I got on here having a home base somewhere has been very much necessary.

I personally believe the torch is an amazing addition. It opens the game to the area that I like. Spec ops! Gonna sneak around and cut through walls and stuff and spy on.. things. Mostly just steal ships lol.

    Damage pulse landmines, anyone?

    All you need is:
    5-6 damage pulses
    Some power
    Trigger areas and activation modules

Place them in a hallway, and link the activation module to a trigger area when you go offline.

Also, it is probably faster to build a box of cannons and reactors and break into a ship that way

Area triggers can be countered by lagging a server to death so this method is exploit-vulnerable. Oh yeah, and killing people with ship-wide insta-kill weapons is overpowered and should be removed from the game.

Lol harsh. I doesn't need to be removed buy balanced. Are you talking about damage pulse? Its really useless right now and this is its only real proposed use.

Lagging a server to death isn't something a newblet with a cutting torch can do, though.
