Rail docker blocks can dock to rail dockers blocks.

For an issue like this, attaching a rail docker to your damaged ship (In astronaut mode, even) so it can hook up to a towing ship is easy...
Provided you happen to have one in your inventory. Are we expected to always carry a few rail docker blocks in addition to a few ship's core block for those 'just in case' situations?

I certainly would. I always tried to keep a docking module and a few enhancers in my inventory before, in case I needed to drag something with me...

ok I managed to put together a diagram of my argument. Its a pretty big picture hopefully you can all see. and again sry if im derailing (pun not intended) this thread.

Sven_The_Slayer I would definitely appreciate it if you could at least get the devs to look at this
Thanks so much for the graphics, this is exactly what I was thinking.

Perhaps put a few on all of your ships?

My argument in video form as to why we don't need old style docking anymore:

My argument in video form as to why we don't need old style docking anymore:

First off, I am not saying we keep the old style. The old docking zone system and enhancers would be eliminated. All I am suggesting is that we be able to dock like the old system based on the location core if we choose to dock that way. The same limitations the new system would be in play like collision checking and mass based enhancers. Once again, you loose nothing but those who want it gain/keep something we will loose once the new system goes live. Posting a video on how to dock using docking collars does not explain why we don't need the ability to land ships on flat docking platforms. I didn't actually see an argument against it, just a demonstration for one way to dock.

In order to land, you'd need landing gear. Magnetic automated coupling with the new docker blocks is planned so even retractable gear will connect to the flat surface. However, even without gear, the lowest point of your ship can be accommodated by just moving the rail backward. Placing a few extra rails so you can place multiple ships there isn't unreasonable. We'd have dozens of connections in the hangars that we'd rarely use all in the name of being able to accommodate everything.

And why can't this ship be allowed to dock on a flat surface? There is zero room for landing gear to be installed due to it's small size and it does have point's touching the ground. It however doesn't have any flat points to which I can replace with a rail docker. Customizing the hanger for one specific ship is not an option. Not to mention I don't even want exposed rail dockers on every single fighter and shuttle. I want a universal hanger that can land any ship that can fit through the hanger door, no questions asked. That is not possible with the current iteration of the rail docking while it was mostly possible with the old style docks.

Alright, you've convinced me... This is indeed a good idea, if not necessarily critical.

alright, I'll submit, the current docking system doesn't accommodate everything. Perhaps a magnet block that would grab those wedges would be a good fit? While there's ways to build good looking and effective systems that would accommodate this ship with the new rail docking system, I'll grant that you might not want an unarmored block exposed, and taking up a large portion of mass in this tiny fighter. couldn't hurt to make the blocks directly below the core act like rail dockers for smaller ships....
