After trying to make a final attempt to get a working elevator with out rails in the current *release version* (not dev build) I found that area triggers act sporadically, as in, at certain points of ships passing through them, they will set themselves on and off (given that they were activated in the first place it seems)

Hard for me to describe what is happening, but I have some gifs that should show the weirdness. Basically the elevator enters a trigger area that touches the bottom of it, and on that touches the top (so that it would be possible to slide the elevator in between both with out touching either if you were really accurate with flying, when one presses a button, the elevator goes to the floor requested provided it isn't the current floor, in which case the elevator does nothing. Going up to a floor in the elevator is fine, it will stop on the correct floor no matter what, not run into wierd glitches or anything, going down appears to cause major problems.

For some reason the area triggers will keep activating when absolutely nothing happens (for example, the elevator is not moving, but the area triggers will keep activating activation blocks toggling them on and off at seemingly random intervals of around 30 - 120 seconds).

Here are pictures featuring this phenomena.

It appears that stationary objects that stay within a trigger area that do not get out and back into the trigger (IE the section of the object which touches the area does not have any breaks to cause re activation) cause the trigger to some times randomly send out an activation signal.

Note that I've tried using one area trigger per area that can be touched and it still does the same thing.

You know you can detect the carts position with activators next to the rail so you don't need to use area triggers. Last time I messed with area triggers entities docked to rails didn't even set them off at all.

Most likely rails will have some sort of speed control. Also your example would not be possible on any moving entity.

What??? What do you mean my example would not be possible. IT IS possible, the only problem that i'm having is the area trigger abnormality. Literally this works after that, in fact, as I've said before this works fine when moving up to a floor, it is changing directions that gets messed up due to problems with static objects inside of area triggers (hence the post). I'm actually kind of insulted and it was kind of rude that you told me that this was impossible, unless you are talking about a separate situation.

Your elevator is just a ship that's being pushed by beams right? If you put that elevator on a moving ship you'll bounce the elevator around till it phases out.

It is on a station... obviously this doesn't work on a moving ship.

Reason why I said "Also your example would not be possible on any moving entity." Rails do work on moving entities without a problem.

I thought you were trying to say that it wouldn't work with a moving entity, as in the elevator itself, not with a ship, I didn't expect to see the reply mention a ship since that wasn't what the elevator was on in the first place, and I assumed that interpretation to be nonsequitr.
