YTC Ratchet Cruiser

    YTC Ratchet Cruiser 2016-01-23

    Hello people!

This here is my first fully finished StarMade ship.

It could be classified as a frigate but I don't really care what you guys want to call it :D. I'm going to call it a cruiser or an armed cruiser. The main purpose of the ship was to act as a small taste of what I could produce. I know people wont be awing about the interior since it wasn't my biggest concern. Again, this ship is meant to give the community a glimpse of what you can be expecting from me in the future (and trust me, the ship I'm building now WILL include a pretty interior and a full one of that).

    OK, enough rambling.

    Lets get to the ship.

The looks are on point, great exterior. Unfortunately, that and the heavy armor are the only good things about it. When it comes to the stats... sorry to say that, but I was hoping you missed a decimal with the shield capacity, but you didn't. As of now, this ship serves only a cosmetic purpose, because it is almost incapable of defending itself. A single swarm array for armament, a really low shield capacity, a less than 0.5 thrust/mass ratio, in a combat situation against anything bigger than Isanths, your best hope is being able to charge the jump drive before they chew up your armor. My advice is: try to find the balance between looks and performance, and do not rely on swarm as a main weapon, because swarm missiles are the most situational weapon system existing in Starmade right now. For a first ship, it looks absolutely great, but looks aren't the most important trait of a ship in anything but a build contest.

    Thanks for the review!
Systems were not really my biggest concern while building this ship. It was more about finding a good way to make an appealing exterior than putting good shields and power. By now I have figured out the secrets of power optimization, thrust ratios, and shield ratios along with developing viable weapon racks that will be present in any future ships I'm going to build.
