After a time, the Ultima Fleet realized that it needed a method of delivering a well equipped infantry force to planetary surfaces quicker than shuttles or landing frigates could. This role was filled with the introduction of the Icarus-class frigate. Boasting thicker armor than was what normally found on Ultima ships at the time, it could muscle through enemy blockades, and deliver it's payload of marines, then fly out the other side. Some of the Ultima's most notable land battles began with a rain of thousands of marines from the skies.
The Icarus is still in use today to launch surgical infantry strikes on planets, typically seen with an escort of cruisers and other frigates. The Icarus can carry 50 marines, and a crew of 12. Each marine has a drop pod, and there is a deck dedicated to offering informational support to ground forces once they are deployed. The Icarus lacks offensive armament, with only a BbOver turret for warding off enemy fighters. Instead, it relies on it's escort fleet and AMS turrets for defense.
Due to the need to fit as many marines as possible into its hull, the Icarus is rather cramped. In practice, marines may spend only a few days aboard while waiting for a drop mission. Otherwise, they spend their time on other, more spacious ships.

NOTES
This is my take on the original Thor shell provided by EFSFRaiben for his first Ship of the Month build! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out (though the placement of the core made me use transporters to get around the interior). This was a lot of fun to build, and I tried out a completely new interior style than I usually do, and I think it went well. For the drop pod mechanism, there are doors on the front of the sides to dock new drop pods. However, for some reason the system doesn't reset itself correctly every time, so I recommend cycling the system a couple times before redocking pods.
Lastly, this is a roleplay ship! I don't recommend using it for battle at all unless your server enjoys tons of entities undocking at once! This was purely a for-the-hell-of-it build! I hope you have fun with it!
Saber reviewed the Icarus! Huge thanks to him!
