The Shredder combat corvette is a common addition to Legion (of Free Worlds) Navy combat fleets, often used for defense and force recon, sporting twelve automated turrets as well as powerful on-board weaponry and shielding.
On-board, it possesses dual plasma autocannons, high-penetration particle beams, and four anti-fighter guided missiles. The turrets on the ventral surface provide extra missile fire, and the other turrets provide strong cannon-overdrive fire. The craft is capacitor-stable during combat and able to fire all weapons in quick succession.
There are four AMS turrets and over 280k shields to provide defense, supplemented by thick advanced armor plates across the hull.
The thrust:weight ratio is respectable, but not exceptional, and the craft is quite maneuverable, allowing it to hold at bay fighters, bombers, and similar-sized corvettes to protect other ships in its fleet. Shredder corvettes occasionally see action as raiding craft, functioning in a squadron to hit vulnerable targets and quickly retreat, and host more turrets than any other corvette available to the Legion Navy.
The largest disadvantages of the shredder are its high production cost compared to other similar craft, and the large surface area to volume ratio, and the mass of the armor necessary to protect that area, and its reliance on turrets to provide a large portion of its damage output. It also has a weak scanner and jump drive
In addition to its importance as a turret gunboat, it has 11k cargo capacity in the starboard fuselage, and crew quarters and a "brig" in the port fuselage. It comes equipped with a single USD-1 docking port behind the bridge.
