Here's a working "proof of concept" surf-board with an alternative drive system based on the "passive" push effect system. Spawn it in, start gravity, and step on the foot plate.
Just step on the footplate again to disable the push-pulses. The footplate starts the pulse cycle, which just keeps running but both the footplate and the pulse must be "on" to trigger a push pulse. Note the "and" block before the push computer.
Both the torp and the board sometimes run fast, and sometimes run slow. There's probably vagaries in the game engine to work out, or maybe it has to do with how many pulses are running through the reciprocating logic blocks, but I've hit the server speed limit on some tests.
The point is... "look! You can use push to set a ship on cruise control without a stack of pennies!"
You still need to enter the core to steer, but now your ship can travel while you walk around and look out the windows. Warning! Don't fall off! The board will just...keep...going. Not sure what happens when an unmanned object enters an un-rendered sector.
The same mechanism is useful for cruise missiles.
Enjoy.
