Well, due to popular votes on my thread Samwiz1's Organic Ships , I decided to make a carrier. But, knowing nothing about carriers, starting small would be the logical first step. So, not long after i started, i present to you the Grapevine class mini carrier.
Current specifications:
Shields/Regen: 62k / 3.5k per second
Power/Regen: 483k / 161k per second
Total Blocks: 1000>
Capabilities:
-1 scanner
-1 Jump Drive, 10 second charge
-1 radar jammer (perm)
-1 Ion Laser (75k shield damage per shot)
Added Entities:
-8 Grape Micro Drones
-5 Birch Turrets
Here's some pictures:
Front of vessel.
Rear of Vessel. Birch Claim Station in distance.
Close up on a Grape drone. Drones have 2 rapid fire cannons each with almost total efficiency, fast thrusters, and will easily dock.
Interior of ship. Ramp leads to exterior with bridge being only room.
Now that that's over with, for all you people out there who, like me before making this, had never successfully used a carrier, here's a little run through of what to do to get this thing battle ready.
1. When you spawn it in, if you use a BP, MAKE SURE TO SET AS OWN FACTION. It is not recommended to use this in a shipyard as doing so would make it so you have to faction each drone individually. Not fun.
2. When in ship core, open entity structure, then click rail system collective. Press Reset all AI Turrets, Activate all AI Turrets, and Active all docked AI. This will prep the turrets and drones for use.
3. Make a new fleet. Call it whatever you want.
4. Add the main carrier to the fleet as the flagship.
5. Add all drones to the fleet and make sure they have docking points set. Do not add the turrets to it, as that might mess it up due to turret glitching.
6. As you approach the sector where you will fight, order your fleet to defend or attack that sector. This will not launch the drones, merely give them a command for when they are launched.
7. When you have entered the sector of battle and are ready to deploy drones, tap the logic button that says Launch Drones. This will cause all drones to eject from the main ship and fight anything in the sector you commanded them to go to. Make sure you are stopped when you launch drones otherwise you may run into them as they are ejected and cause glitch lag.
8. Assuming you somehow survived the battle, or are simply running and want to take your drones with you, open the fleet commands and press Carrier Recall. Then wait 15-30 seconds for your drones to all come back. Once you press it, make sure to reactivate the Launch Drones logic block so they don't dock and undock again immediately after.
9. Run away.
10. Open your browser and leave a comment and a rating for this ship. Be honest, but don't mangle it just because it's small.
So, there. You just got a how-to on the most basic carrier possible and a ship out of it, assuming you read this far. If you found this in any way helpful or at least thought the design was interesting please do step 10. Thanks.
