Cylon lights prefab with instruction manual

Cylon lights prefab with instruction manual 2014-09-07

A cyclone light system prefab that can be copied and pasted into a design though I suggest adjusting it on the prefab then copy/pasting after. And yes you can copy and paste between different ships. Only problem is you have to change which core your in to do so.

    Warning
Please read the initial required setup part of this text as you have to link one DELAY to get it working. I could have linked this myself as default but then a second link later will muck it up. This delay selects the width of the cyclon light that sweeps back and forth.

Its setup to look forward and start to sweep from left to right.
    Here is the top view.

    Logic Identification
Each light in the cylon light consists of a unit of 6 blocks. Each of these 6 block sections are connected exactly the same way. Copying and pasting will keep those links. Top to bottom is the light, OR, AND, AND, DELAY, DELAY. I will refer to the top AND as AND1 and the bottom AND as AND2. Similarly top DELAY is DELAY1 and the bottom DELAY2. The DELAYS to the left of the actuators are the pulse width timer circuit.

The three 6 block sections to the left of that is an example that shows the cross connects between the before and after 6 block sections.

    Start/stop and initial required setup
The bottom actuator or rear one starts and stops the entire circuit. Link your logic controls into that. To the left of that actuator is a series of time delays that determines the pulse width of the cylon lights just select the delay in sequence to suit and link that to the NOT gate. Also only connect one of those delays to the NOT. Multiple delays connected to the NOT gate will have unintended conseqences. If you activate the circuit the lights all turn on eventual and none off that probably means the pulse width delay isn't connected to the NOT gate.

    Colour Change
To change the colour just replace the purple lights with what you want and link the OR to the light.

    Reverse Start direction
There is a link between the bottom/rear actuator and the DELAY1 in the first 6 section block to the right of the actuator. Disconnect this link then link that actuator to the right most 6 block sections DELAY2.

    Make the system shorter
Just delete the excess 6 block sections starting from the right side. When you have it at the correct length, on the right most 6 block section select AND1 and connect it to DELAY2. This will cause the cylon light to turn around at that point. If not the cylon light will only sweep once from left to right.

    Make the system longer
I made this pretty big because extending is a lot harder than making shorter. Delete the right most 6 block section (this 6 block section turns the cylon light around). Mark this point with something as you will need to relink all the cross connections to the right of this point. Copy and paste in the 6 block sections till you have the required length.

The top/front actuator must be linked to every AND gate.

Next you have to cross link the new 6 section blocks in. The example is on the left side of the prefab part.

Connect the left AND1 to the right DELAY1. Connect the right AND2 to the left DELAY1. This has to be done for each section. At the right most end link AND1 to DELAY2 to turn the light around when it hits the right of the bar.

    Testing debugging.
Test activate it. You can see the lights march across the circuit and back again. If it starts disappearing at one 6 block section check that the top/front actuator is linked to both ANDs in that section then check if one cross connects is missing in that 6 block section to adjacent sections. If all the lights turn on that means the pulse length delay hasn't been connected to the NOT gate. Turning the bottom/rear actuator off will generally reset the entire system.

    Hope this helps
