Introducing the Caerleon-Class Floating Battleship from the Code Geass universe!
The Caerleon-Class, also known as the "Light Avalon" Class, was the first mass-production floating combat ship used by the Holy Britannian Empire. It served primarily as a heavy escort for the larger and more heavily-armed Logres-Class battleships. Although heavily armed and armored, the Logres's real strength was its ability to carry several VTOL or Knightmare escorts. The ability of floating battleships to penetrate enemy airspace, gain absolute local air superiority, and deliver air-mobile Knightmares gave Britannia a significant advantage on the battlefield.
The testbed for the Caerleon's technology was the Avalon, made famous as the flagship for Prince Schniezel, and then later His Majesty, Emperor Lelouch V Britannia. However, the Caerleon-Class differed from the Avalon-Class in a few key ways. The Avalon's shields were oriented exclusively on the underside, making it vulnerable to enemy air attack. The Caerleon's shields are distributed around the ship, at the cost of a lower overall shield strength. The Avalon's Hadron Cannons were also excluded from the final design as a cost-saving measure. As an additional cost-saving measure, the Caerleon's Core Luminous was made of cheaper materials, limiting its overall output.
