Borg Vortex Class EWF-SV

Borg Vortex Class EWF-SV MK III

Hello guys, been a while since my last ship update so I spent a couple days rebuilding probably my least favourite one. The Vortex Class, seemed to me like an awesome thing to add to my Borg fleet in Starmade - one of their sphere ships. But when I tried to actually design it, it came out very badly and I learned the difficulty of painting a hull design over a voxel sphere with constantly shifting dimensions.

I had a few things in mind for the rebuild, most importantly, go bigger! The problem with building voxel spheres is that the smaller they are the uglier and more misshapen they look, bigger is always better! So I've increased the total size by about 100% from the Mark I. I also wanted to create a hull that wasn't a a singular density and image all over, I wanted different sized armour plates and varying shades of the usual Borg colouring. This was all pretty hard for me at first to build onto a sphere, but I think it came out okay, far and away better than the Mark I version anyway.

I started to explore logic systems with this ship too, since it's intended as a support vessel for my WIP Borg Titan. I wanted it to be less of a stand alone vessel and more of a fleet support "annoyance". I thoroughly enjoyed working with logic circuits during this build and expect to be using them extensively in pretty much every ship I make going forward. I found Bench's logic guides to be an extreme help and used some of the ideas he spoke about, including the damage indicator display.

Here's the stats of the updated Vortex Class - I've also taken to adding a little bit of random technobabble lore to some of the systems, most of which I made up, but are fun to write speaking as a Borg/Star Trek fan!

    Weaponry

    Phased Ion Beam

A standard beam cannon assimilated from Species 1927: The Mokra, specifically modulated by the Borg to inflict heavy damage against energy shields, but is inneffective against standard matter.

Master: Beam, Slave: Beam, Effect: Ion
    Damage: 6,100 to shields.

    Borg Cutting Beam

Widely used Borg laser-weapon, specialized at cutting through ship hulls with pinpoint accuracy.

(Master: Beam, Slave: Beam, Effect: Punch-Through)
    Damage: 3,050

    Tricobalt Charge

Powerful explosive device based on assimilated Federation blueprints and enhanced with Borg Nanoprobes. Causes subspace ripples to tear across impacted surfaces and rip out massive chunks of ship hulls.

(Master: Missile, Slave: Damage Pulse, Effect: Explosive)
    Damage: 660,600
    Explosive Radius: 40m
    Range: 1,000m

    Positron Burst

Rapidly firing anti-particle bursts employed as a support measure after the Borg encountered increasingly advanced shielding systems designed to resist their standard beam cannons. Creates electron annihilations along a ship's shield grid, draining energy through the deflector array.

(Master: Missile, Slave: Cannon, Effect: EMP)
This is an automated logic weapon the pilot can activate and deactivate at will, firing continuous projectiles that cause power damage to impacted targets without further player interaction.

    Gravity Bombs

Graviton Based homing charges can be periodically released from this support vessel, enhanced with Borg Nanoprobes, these smart bombs lock on to their target and detonate into microscopic gravity wells, hindering navigation and causing small amounts of damage through graviton shear.

(Master: Missile, Slave: Missile, Effect: Stop)
This is an automated logic weapon the pilot can activate and deactivate at will, firing continuous projectiles that cause small amounts damage and a webbing effect to impacted targets without further player interaction.

Please remember most importantly, that this fleet I'm creating is for my own personal interpretation of a Borg Collective, and not meant to be 100% canon to the Star Trek series/movies in terms of looks, ship functionality and size - though I will aim to be accurate enough for them to be unmistakably Borg.

Thanks for reading my wall of text as always! Please take a look at my thread over on the forums to check on my future plans and current status! ^^

Nice, but my recently downloaded and assembled version is missing the last two weapons. It also has a separately listed explosive computer with ~734 blocks, in addition to the one slaved to missiles.
It looks good it needs redone due to new updates but it looks good now i can say This Is The Borg Lower Your Shields And Sorender Your Ships
The brilliant sphere like shape makes this ship grand in appearance and efficiency.
5 stars if you add wedges, pentas and tetras :P

Unfortunately building a sphere requires you not to use wedges, pentas and tetras! Whilst it may seem smoothing the edges is better it actually makes it worse on a Sphere since it ruins the shape/outline. The only way to get a smooth voxel sphere is make it as big as possible to minimize the size of each "pixel".
