Built around the Assault Cube core, the Invasion Class is my most powerful (and expensive!) Borg vessel yet and revolves around the concept of pure, overwhelming fire power.
Due to the problems with the Mark I assault core, I still haven't been able to solve the reactor issues with energy regeneration, and as such the AMC Array still isn't able to fire at full power for longer than a few seconds. I have increased the energy output by about 100%, and the guns will fire at around 70% total possible output if sustained fire is required. I am unable to completely solve the energy issues until the redesign on the Mark II assault core is built - but rest assured, the Invasion Class still puts out an incredible amount of damage.
For the offensive oriented series, I wanted to include turrets somehow. I know they would look rather out of place slapped directly onto the side of a Borg Cube, and even though I am trying to recreate the Borg somewhat accurately, I also want them to fit mechanically with the game systems of Starmade, and turrets are essentially a staple for any large ship in the game. I opted to go for slim turrets that would sit somewhat neatly into the cube's sides, and not stick out enough for them to really not fit with the Borg theme. Originally I designed a massive 40m long missile turret for the top and bottom sides, but decided that they conflicted with this aesthetic issue, in that they really didn't fit in enough - so instead opted for smaller turrets on all sides (except of course the front for obvious reasons you can't get around at the moment). In retrospect, the turrets aren't quite as powerful (mostly defensively) as I'd hoped, and will probably be indented deeper into the outer hull, giving room to make them larger, once some space is freed up from the fixed reactor set up in the Mark II versions.
Here's the stats.
Mass: 24,699.4 (Blocks: 244,334)
Dimensions: L: 65m, H: 65m, W: 65m
Power: 2,012,802.3 (1,162,578.6 e/sec)
Thrust: 13,592.7
Turning Speed: 1.1 on all axis
Shields: 2,343,595 (44,239 s/sec)
AMC Array: 106,110.4 DPS (Unable to run at 100% firing rate for long with current reactor set up)
F&F Missile Battery: 28,618 damage, 23.6 explosive radius, 14.6 reload time
Price: 127,485,605 (includes all 20 of the docked turrets)
Turrets Combined Offensive Stats
AMC Array: 15,196 DPS
F&F Missile Battery: 3,460 damage, 13.0 explosive radius, 30.1 reload time
The offensive series turned out to be slightly larger, in total dimensions, than the shield series, so I've decided to stick at this size (or at least try D: ) for the MSRV ship group and scale the rest up in their Mark II versions.
For the aesthetics of the Invasion Class, I had to design it around the fact it had turrets, and to try and make them fit in as much as possible and not stick out from the main cube structure too much. In that regard, I think I succeeded, however, I'm still not happy with the overall look of the hull design, some parts look a little out of place and wrongly sized. However, being short on time and wanting to get this out today, I decided to stick with it for now. Probably going to be somewhat redone for the Mark II vessel.
Please remember most importantly, that this fleet I'm creating is for my own personal interpretation of a Borg Collective, and not meant to be 100% canon to the Star Trek series/movies in terms of looks, ship functionality and size - though I will aim to be accurate enough for them to be unmistakably Borg.
Thanks for reading my wall of text as always! Please take a look at my thread over on the forums to check on my future plans and current status! ^^
Have some pictures!
Setting up the first large batteries of F&F missiles inside the wire-frame for the outer hull.
What's better than lots of missiles? Even more missiles! :O Also trying to squeeze some more reactors in to stabilise the power drain from the flawed MK I core.
Completed Invasion Class MK I.
