Fragmented graphics, This was working before

    I've got the same exact problem with this update. The framerate is much better but the graphics are unbearably buggy. The game is unplayable.

    Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5450

    I'm very leery about updating the graphics driver. Ordinarily it's a good idea, but the last time I did it my entire operating system started acting... flaky. Had to use system restore just to get the computer back to a usable state.

    *One update later*

    Well that just traded one problem for another. Flickering chunks are gone, but now there's a new glitch with distant objects. "Tearing" is the only way I can visually describe it. Looks like the blocks in the distance are doing the wave.

    This exact same thing happened to Starmade the last time I tried to update my graphics driver. At least my operating system hasn't imploded in on itself ...yet.

    EDIT:
    Never mind. My operating system became unresponsive minutes later and I had to use system restore. AMD's getting a very angry call from me first thing tomorrow.

    I'm at the point on one machine I can update to 14.14. Just to see if it's an issue with the newer driver.

    I used to have that on an old computer too.

    It was rectified when I got a new computer, but I still have the old one, and it still has those problems...

    However, no, you aren't experiencing the same problem. We are seeing graphics loading at completely random consistency, why you are only missing pieces in "lines" which move when you change your position from the mass. Not to say that it isn't a legitimate problem, just that you should look for another thread. Did this only start happening after the update?

    It seems this is affecting AMD and ATI users. My intel and nvidia test machines are not having this issue at all. These are different different symptoms with a related cause.

    Please check that Setting - > Show Advanced Settings "Use Frame Buffer" is set to ON
    or Toggle "F_FRAME_BUFFER_USE" in the Settings.cfg to true

    Please reply if that solves the problem

    Aaaaaand: Yup. That's it.
    Confirmed working. Use Frame Buffer in Advance Settings must be set to ON.

    Yep, that is precisely what happened to me when I updated to the latest graphic driver. My operating system also became partially unresponsive but that's on AMD, not Starmade. I'll see if the frame buffer setting SmilingDemon suggested will work with my ancient (but stable) video driver.

    ...Nope.
    Looks like that setting will only help with newer drivers. Like the one I can't have. Going to make that angry phone call to AMD now.

    Mine is finally working, I had to completely uninstall and reinstall my graphics driver. Give that a try if all else fails.

    Hopefully it holds this time and my computer doesn't melt on reboot or something.

    there graphical glitches were the reason the hotfix for the misplaced textures was delayed. I think I have fixes for some or all of the errors in the latest dev build. I need some testing though to make sure.

    There is one open GL call I'm not sure ATI likes very much, but before I disable that call and use a slower one, I want to make sure it is still broken on the latest dev (especially the chunks not being drawn at distance), because it might very well be a shader issue I fixed.

    Could you maybe check if those bugs still happen in the latest dev build. There is also an option in the ingame graphics options to turn off MultiDraw, which is what I suspect is causing the missing chunks at distance (but it could be the shaders as said)

    So, FBO off still causes problems in the latest dev? Also, if yes, does the option to turn off multiDraw do anything with FBO off?

    In case you don't know how to use the dev builds:
    • Go to your launcher, press the "options" button, select "installation settings".

    • Put the "build branch" on DEV and select OK.
    After that it's just like a normal update, search for newest version, download it and play :)

    Also, make a new world just in case, DEV builds are known to be funky. This one shouldn't cause any problems but you never know for sure.
