This a thread to discuss block article formats for the StarMade Wiki.

SMWiki Bot Testing Wiki - For testing the bot.

GOALS

• To create an article format suitable for maintaining block pages with SMWiki Bot
• Article format should be easy for humans to modify and add to, without compromising bot automation
• Article format should utilise SMWiki Bot and game XML files to automate creation and maintenance of as much useful information as possible

Proposed Format

The bot creates three pages, one display page (front end page) and two template pages (infobox and production). The display page contains the block description, categories, stub tag and links to the production and infobox template pages. The bot solely handles the template pages, which contain information from the game's XML files. This allows the bot to automatically keep game XML information up to date without meddling with user edits. Additionally, the display page allows the bot pages (templates) to be placed anywhere and gives editors the freedom to edit pages.

Split content into three pages, two bot template pages for automated bot edits only and a display page. Bot content is displayed on the article using MediaWiki's template system.

Bit late to the party here, but the item description should probably be given a heading to ensure clarity.

In a lot of cases, descriptions are out of date and could mislead readers if not labelled clearly. Putting them under ==Item Description== automatically should clear that up; this is usually done when a human editor comes through, anyway, so automating it would be nice.

This would mean the page doesn't have any summary text, at first, but I guess you could have it tag new pages such that a human can come and add an accurate summary?

Yea, no heading on item descriptions is on purpose. The descriptions are so poorly written anyway, they should just be replaced with editors own descriptions. That's why they're not in a template of their own or labelled.
