why not instead of making warpgates only go a transport a certain distance why not make it so the distance you can make the gate go is only limited by the power you can give it and when the gate is 'open' the power drains until it goes below the minimum to make a connection to wherever it makes a connection to and you have to wait for it to charge up and turn it on again

Why do you not post it in the suggestion forum?

You could transport billions of tons with a flat amount of energy? I don't know if it is balanced. But it could make gate-stations more common too.
You have a limited time-frame of using it? It may be annoying. Some might find a way to link it to an activation gate in front of the warp gate.
