Warp Drive Without Ruining Combat

    Anyone who has actually tried getting anywhere in Starmade will know that it just takes AGES to get from A to B. a simple solution would be a warp drive, but as schema said in one of his posts; this would be combat exploitable. ive thought up two simple solutions to this.

    the first method would be to have it possible to disable the warp engines in combat (by shooting them) just like in so many episodes of Star Trek.

    the second would be to simply disable them for a period of time if there is weapons fire in the sector, meaning that warp travel would be impossible in combat.

    I agree with schema saying it to be combat exploitable, 100%! But if you were to, like you said, have them disabled when under taking fire (Great Idea Btw), it would be more reasonable. All starmade players always have the task of taking 1-10 minutes to go a few sectors away.



    When you say it would also be disabled if there was firing in the sector, do you really mean the whole sector, or a a big enough area around your ship? Cuz chances are, there is going to be a guy, or a turret, shooting constantly at something random, or just goofing off.

    ex. Protected Spawns, Spawns in general.



    Anyway, love the idea, and this would be an awesome thing to add to the game! I\'m sure many agree.

    thats a good point, it should be a bit more spesific, perhaps instead of sector, it is a ship spesific thing, where if you take damage (or fire on somthing) your drive wont work

    Warm-up times could be implemented for warp drive engines; during warmups, a large amount of energy could be consumed, thus rendering weapons and perhaps engines less effective, if not completely inoperational. In addition to this, taking fire could interrupt the warm-up process.
