I use Bandicam, works fine on all games I ever tried, including Starmade. From my old SNES and Sega Saturn emulators to even the newest releases, such as GTA V and The Witcher III.
OBS/Xsplit, I also use Bandicam from time to time. Typically I use Xsplit however, As it is a multi-use program, I can set the framerate etc, and at the same time, if I want to stream to twitch as well, I just hit a button.
Shadowplay is technically the "best" since it's hardware recording, rather than software recording.
I personally use Bandicam, since it is extremely efficient FPS-wise, at least when compared to the other software I've used in the past. Very, very low CPU overhead. I'm not really sure how it compares to OBS, though.
I started with fraps since it was simple to use. then tried Action! (wasn't that good). now i use the El Gato capture card. Works really well and not very hardware intensive.
I use OBS, mainly because I can use it for streaming and recording, depends on which I like to do. I have used fraps at one point worked fine, however that was back when I had one harddrive. It gave me 10 minutes of recording that took up far to much space. Now I record with OBS which gives me for at least 10 minutes, maybe a gig more or less.
