    In reference to the v.18999 release...

    I am confused, about what is meant by "...damage applied gets halved...will automatically lead to a softcap at around 7 blocks deep"

    If I manage to do 8500 damage to the first block, then I'm doing over 50 damage at 8 blocks deep.
    8500 -> 4250 -> 2125 -> 1062 -> 531 -> 265 -> 132 -> 66 -> ...

    If I manage to do over 100k damage to the first block, then I'm doing over 50 damage at 11 blocks deep, maybe even 12.
    100000 -> 50000 -> 25000 -> 12500 -> 6250 -> 3125 -> 1562 -> 781 -> 390 -> 195 -> 97 -> 48 -> ...

    So, while I need deal 12 times more damage to that first block to penetrate 4 blocks deeper - which is significant! - I don't see any sort of cap there.

    Am I missing something?

    (just to be clear here, this is all just math based on what was stated, and is not any sort of analysis of in-game testing)

    Well perhaps you should test it before making a thread. I am sure they didnt state there was a soft cap if there wasn't one. It's also soft, meaning it isn't exactly going to be 7 blocks each time.

    In the case of starmade, napkin math is about the same as testing.

    Here, have some napkin math:

    1000 damage applied (takes X blocks)

    1000->500->250->125->67.5->33.75 (cutoff)
    6 blocks that cost X

    2000 damage applied (takes 2X blocks)

    7 blocks, the extra block costs X

    4000 damage applied (takes 4x blocks)

    8 blocks, the extra block costs 2x

    And so on.

    Essentially it gets exponentially more difficult to get that extra block as you increase the size of the array.

    Thus, the softcap.
