These are the classifications used for the USSF faction ships. You don't have to use them at all, I'm just putting this here for faction reference.

NOTE: I'll be frank. These have less mass than typical ships of the class. This is because these are classifications for an RP faction that has ships with interiors. These interiors greatly increase volume without increasing mass too much. Don't use them if you don't like them.

    Class, Abbreviation-Example Designation: Min-Max mass
    Desc
    Subtypes
    Lightweight Classes
    Micro Fighter, SF-81: 0.4-5 mass
0.4 is the minimum mass for a combat capable craft, a ship core, power unit, computer, and weapon, thrusters aren't NEEDED for the smallest, but certainly useful. These ships are normally made to fit on a minimum size docking port, and provide minimal support.

    Fighter, F-797: 5.1-30 mass
Fighters are small, maneuverable craft whose main purpose is to destroy enemy bombers and micro fighters. They usually have a TWR of 2 or more, allowing them to use speed to their advantage.

    Heavy Fighter, F-83: 10-50 mass
Heavy fighters are larger and more powerful than standard fighters. They are mainly armed with cannons, but sometimes have small missile pods.

    Interceptor, P-62: 5.1-20 mass
Interceptors are small, very fast craft that are meant to engage only other fighters, using better maneuverability instead of more weapons to gain an edge in combat.

    Fighter-Bomber, FB-98: 10-50 mass
Fighter-bombers are vrsatile craft armed with both cannons and missiles, allowing them to engage fighters, bombers, and even some small corvettes. They are not as effective against either target as the specialised classes, though.

    Dropship/Boarding Shuttle, TF-81: 0.4-50 mass
These craft are used to deposit infantry forces and most have weapons to support them. This allows attacking parties to have large amounts of supressive fire from astronauts as well as more powerful weapons like cannons.

    Bomber, B-97: 5.1-50 mass
Bombers are small ships designed to assault larger foes. They carry mainly missiles, sometimes with a small cannon array. They aren't as fast as most fighters, rendering them vulnerable to such foes.

    Heavy Bomber, B-84: 20-60 mass
Heavy bombers have very powerful weaponry for their size, but lack in speed. They vary from glass cannon concepts to the equivalent of a tank in space.

    Light Bomber, B-86: 5.1-30 mass
Light bombers are more nimble than standard ones, giving them a higher chance of dodging shots, but they get their maneuverability from a reduction of weaponry and defenses.

    Heavy Dropship/Heavy Boarding Shuttle, TB-66: 50.1-60 mass
The heavy variant of these craft havea a larger troop complement and more powerful weaponry.

    Attacker, A-92: 5.1-50 mass
Attack vehicles typically carry a large number of small weapons, making them extremely effective against ground forces, infantry, and small ships. They aren't very good at attacking larger enemies.

    Corvette, C-12: 50.1-100 mass
The corvette is a versatile ship that can fulfill multiple roles, and the first class with crew capacity. There are variants such as fighter hunting, fire support, and patrol. Some even have small turrets. Corvettes form the backbone of any light attack force.

    Fighter Hunter, C-11: 50.1-7o mass
These ships are designed to destroy fighters. They pack numerous light cannons and usually a small guided missile array. They have high enough speed to compete with fighters. These also fight bombers just as effectively as fighters.

    Patrol Vessel, C-14: 50.1-80 mass
Patrol ships are the eyes and ears of the fleet. They normally come equipped with speed-enhancing equipment and effective shields to stay safe, but keep weaponry to a minimum so that speed stays high.

    Missile Corvette, CM-15: 50.1-100 mass
Missile Corvettes are essentially very large bombers. They carry large numbers of missiles and only a few cannons. They vary from fragile weapon systems to defensive support ships.

Fire Support Vehicle, CS-27: 50.1-100 mass
These ships are meant to stay back and provide fire support, usually in the form of heavy cannons. They are normally outfitted with damage and range upgrades to provide better support, and aren't usually well protected.

    Medium Weight Classes
    Frigate, FF-909: 100.1-300 mass
Frigates are medium-sized ships fit for many roles, and are much more capable than corvettes in things other than fighter hunting and scouting. They are a good balance between offense, defense, and speed.

    Light Escort, FE-847: 100.1-300 mass
Light escorts are meant to provide defense for friendly civilian vessels or the more vulnerable carriers. They have better defense than standard frigates but a slower speed and sometimes a weaker armament.

    Missile Frigate, FM-892: 100.1-300 mass
Missile frigates carry huge explosives for use against larger ships. They are very effective against ships such as destroyers and other frigates.

    Utility Vehicle, UV-112: 100.1-200 mass
Utility vehicles are meant more for support rather than combat. They have tools such as salvage beams, powersupply beams, astrotechnobeams, etc. Most have at least minimal weaponry, and soe carry detrimental beams such as power drains for use against hostiles.

    Hunter-Killer, SH-225: 100.1-300 mass
Hunter-killers are frigate-sized ships that carry a small ship, such as a fighter or interceptor, giving them the ability to attack targets that don't know of their presence. Some carry a small jammer array to interrupt lock-ons.

Military Light Transport, LT-419: 100.1-500 mass
These ships are armed resource haulers. They usually have strong shields and good speed, but only have light weaponry. They are normally accompanied by light escorts.

    Command Frigate, CF-951: 150-500 mass
These ships are designed to lead any smaller ship into battle. They are essentially large frigates, but they normally choose defense over speed, to increase overall survivability.

    Light Destroyer, DL-856: 300-600 mass
These are small destroyers that are mainly used as a small fleet's command ship. They are an overall upgrade of any kind of frigate or command unit below them, offering a good performance in any category.

    Heavyweight Classes
    Destroyer, DD-112: 600.1-1,000 mass
Destroyers are the backbone of any standard fleet, offering great firepower, armor, and shielding. They aren't normally very fast, but there are exceptions. They almost always have a good mix of weaponry.

    Heavy Destroyer, DD-213: 750-1,250 mass
These are tough ships designed for the frontlines. Most are noticeably sluggish, but they carry very heavy defenses and weaponry to make up for it. These are commonly used for planetary assaults.

    Missile Destroyer, DM-622: 600.1-1,000 mass
These ships corry only a few cannons in favor of a number of different missile systems. They are extremely powerful against ships with light shields, and when supported with ion weaponry are a force to be reckoned with.

    Sniper Platform, DS-391: 600.1-1,000 mass
Sniper ships are designed to support others from afar, equipping long-range heavy cannons. They excel at taking out shields and pinpoint strikes.

    Military Transport, MT-729: 500.1-1,500 mass
These are able to transport very large amounts of cargo from point A to point B while having defenses on board. The weaponry is mostly geared towards fending off fighters, with relatively few heavy weapons. They rely on shields and speed to get to their destination.

    Command Destroyer, CD-991: 1,000.1-1,500 mass
Command destroyers are large and imposing ships able to effectively attack any heavyweight or lighter ship. They are used for commanding medium-sized fleets.

    Capital Ships
    Cruiser, CA-625: 1,500.1-2,500 mass
Cruisers are the smallest of capital ships, but are not to be taken lightly. They are also the fastest of capitals as well as having great all=round performance. Large fleets rely on their cruisers to pull them through battles.

    Light Cruiser, CL-796: 1,500.1-2,000 mass
Light cruisers are designed to be the most agile capital ships around. What they gain in speed, they lack in armor and/or firepower.

    Armored/Heavy Cruiser, CA-942: 2,000-3,000 mass
These are stronger cruisers with more powerful shields, armor, and weaponry, but slower speed. They are very effective against almost any target.

    Aviation Cruiser, CF-808: 2,000-3,000 mass
Aviation cruisers are large cruisers that carry a complement of fighters or bombers. They are rarely purpose built and are normally the result of a retrofit.

    Pocket Battleship, BL-748: 2,500-3,500 mass
Pocket battleships are less conventional ships, they carry numerous turrets, heavy shielding, and strong armor, but lack in speed. They are much smaller than standard battleships. They are able to engage any target due to their compact nature.

    Battlecruiser, BC-758: 2,500.1-5,000 mass
Battlecruisers are essentially huge versions of standard cruisers. They are firepower oriented, being able to penetrate even the heaviest defenses given time. They are not as well protected for their size compared to battleships.

    Battleship, BB-959: 5,000.1-7,500 mass
Battleships are very large warships, carrying large numbers of both anticapital and point defense turrets, as well was having very strong shields. They sacrifice speed for their potency. These are the backbone of only the largest fleets.

    Dreadnought, DN-917: 7,500.1-15,000 mass
Dreadnoughts are huge ships that are extremely powerful. They are essentially larger battleships, and are very hard to take down without another dreadnought.

    Titan, TA-875: 15,000.1-25,000 mass
Titans are the largest capital ships, able to destroy any smaller craft. They are slow, lumbering beasts with a temper, and are typical flagships of any powerful navy.

    Carrier, CV-934: 5,000-15,000 mass
Carriers are large ships with hangar space for smaller craft. They are designed to support fleet actions by releasing fighter squadrons or bomber wings to keep the fleet safe and distract the enemy.

    Supercarrier, SC-883: 15,000.1-25,000 mass
Supercarriers are extremely large ships capable of carrying dozens of ships, and sometimes even a few corvettes. They are the ultimate cpital support ships.

    Supercapitals
    Supertitan, ST-878: 25,000.1-50,000 mass
Supertitans are gigantic ships capable of destroying any capital alone, but they are susceptibe to larger ships due to their abyssmal turn rate.

    Mothership, MH-941: 2,500.1-50,000 mass
Motherships are vast ships carrying scores of fighters and bombers, as well as being capable of carrying corvettes or possibly even frigates. They are like mobile stations, and are extremely sluggish as such.

    Alpha Class, AC-569: 50,000.1-200,000 mass
The Alphas are some of the largest ships to date. They have massive shield generators, huge numbers of large turrets, and most carry ships even if they aren't a carrier variant.

    Delta Class, DC-576 or Δ-576, 200,000.1-500,000 mass
The Delta class is the second largest classification in the USSF. They can destroy some fleets singlehandedly. They can only be defeated by larger fleets, Alphas, or another Delta.

    Omega Class, OC-596 or Ω-596: 500,000.1+ mass
Omegas are the largest ships. They can take up entire sectors, and defeat almost any fleet on their own. Few even start these behemoths, and even fewer dare to challenge them. Only the largest of fleets, Deltas, or another Omega can defeat these.

    Specialty Classes
    Experimental/Prototype/Incomplete Ship, X__-___
The blanks are used for the ship class abbreviation and designation, such as XDD-940 for a prototype destroyer, number 940.

    Stealth Fighter, U-88: 0.6-200 mass
Stealth fighters are able to indefinitely cloak and jam. They have only light weaponry and shielding, as well as usually no armor, but the ability to stay undetected is a huge tactical advantage.

    Stealth Corvette, UC-879: 200.1-500 mass
Stealth corvettes are usually only able to cloak and jam for a limited amount of time, although some can indefinitely. The only difference between them and stealth fighters is mass and the aforementioned limitation.

    Scout, S-72: 0.4-25 mass
Scouts are very small, nimble ships meant to find enemies. They rarely have an armament, but most have at least minimal shields.

    Ground Vehicle Classes
Armored Personnel Carrier, APC-70: 0.2-10 mass
APCs are desgined for transporting multiple infantry safely. They normally have only light armament and power, but it's a lot better than nothing.

Infantry Fighting Vehicle, IFV-77: 10.1-30 mass
IFVs are larger, stronger, and more owerful APCs. The only disadvantage of them compared to APCs is their size.

    Tank, M-401: 30.1-100 mass
Tanks are the go-to weapons for ground forces. They have good armor, firepower, and are much more mobile than infantry.

    Light Tank, M-402: 30.1-70 mass
Light tanks have less armor and shields in order to be very fast. These are great for hit-and-run attacks.

    Heavy Tanks, M-403: 50-150 mass
Heavy tanks have lots of armor and shielding, plus firepower to boot. They are normally sluggish, though.

    Artillery Vehicle, M-419: 10-100 mass
These vehicles come in many varieties, but all have one thing in common: A heavy missile armament. These are use for long-range attacks on high-value targets.

    Transport, T-130: 0.2-30 mass
Transports are unarmored resource/infantry carriers. The lack of defenses allows them to carry more resources with the same mass as another vehicle.

    Personal Transport, CM-098: 0.1-1 mass
Personal transports are used for civilians to get around easily. They normally have only 1 seat.

    Multi-Transport, CT-086: 1.1-5 mass
These are a way to transport multiple people. They carry 2 or more pasengers.

    Freighter, CC-087: 5.1-100 mass
Freighters are used to move cargo and sometimes passengers within friendly territory. Essentially all of them are unpotected.

    Salvager, SA-099: 5-100 mass
Salvagers are used to harvest resources. They carry a few storages and have a reasonable number of salvage arrays.

    Heavy Freighter, CH-081: 100.1-500 mass
Heavy freighters are used to transport large numbers of materials and passengers within friendly territory. Almost none have protection built-in.

    Merchant Ship, MH-083: 500.1+ mass
Merchants use these to transport anything needed within friendly territory. Some have protection, some don't, but only a few have an armament.

These are... really small... Um... Though I can't remember the masses offhand, this would make my corvette a Battleship and my cruiser something like a Titan... IDK how to even classify my planned carrier, which might have a mass in the alpha/delta range. (IIRC, most modern titans would become omegas in this system.)

Are you sure it isn't just your ships? I haven't seen anything bigger than a supertitan on the servers I play on. Besides, these are for a RPish faction, making the ships larger with less mass due to interiors. And if your corvette is a battleship, are your fighters over 500 mass? That's crazy for what I've seen.

EDIT: I should really clarify this in the OP, sorry, but I am using classes that make sense on an RP scale, not the typical starmade mentality of super humongous ships. Sorry!

Makes sense for an RP scale but not on sci-fi scale. There are contless popular scifi storie/games that have much much MUCH larger ships. Star wars, Halo, Mass effect, EVE and that's just off the top of my head.

I don't have fighters or even bombers; if I did they'd be around 100-200 mass due to my tendency to build huge interiors even on tiny ships... :P

Ah, I see. You are a victim of SMSD (Starmade Massive Ship Disorder). I have not been able to find a cure yet, but don't lose hope!

My fighters are 9 meters long (~70-116 mass) and my titan is 1.270+ kilometers long. SMSD is only a thing if you WANT it to be.

I assume you mean 90 meters for your fighters? Ah well, I guess I'm one of the small ship advocates.

Plus, when I say fighter, I mean sonething really maneuverable. something of 100 mass isn't anywhere near the maneuverability of something that's of 20 mass.

Ehh, for Starmade 24015 mass (Avar-Kiaan-class Cruiser mass) isn't huge for a cruiser... I think I've seen hundred-thousand-mass ships referred to as Battlecruisers sometimes. Now THAT is SMSD. Also, yes, 20 mass is maneuverable, but let's face it, who the hell wants to fly a 20-mass ship that will die with one hit from a medium-sized cannon turret?

    ...AI :p
But I am one of the RP people that would rather fly a great looking ship with a nice interior over something built for ruthless efficiency. Call me a stickler for aesthetics.

No, when I type 9 meters I mean 9 meters. A 90 long ship is a corvette or a frigate...

What does size have to do with design? The only relation they have is that you can detail more and interiour on a larger scale if the ship gets bigger in size. Large ship ≠ big box of death

You said 70 mass in a 9-meter thing? 700 blocks in that space?

I meant that I have ships with less mass but a similar size because they have large interiors, I wasn't trying to imply that big=guncube. I'm assuming that these ships with much higher mass don't have as much of an interior. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, I'm just giving my faction something to work with.

I lied, the one I posted has dimensions of 10,11,15 and 116 mass. It's also meant to be AI controlled.

You also seem to have a big ship = cube idea which is just COMPLETELY false. I like big ships and small ships alike, and I'd rather die then fly in a f*cking brick (barely exaggerating). Bigger ships just give more opportunity for detail and more complex stuff. For example:

Now if you think that I made this for "ruthless efficiency" you're completely wrong. If it was the case there wouldn't be a gigantic separation in the front or the back. Yes, people actually make big ships for RP. And no, adding some systems doesn't mean that we're trying to min-max a ship...

I never said you had to use this, and all you are doing is either yelling at me for small masses or posting exceptions to my OPINIONS. I never said all big ships are cubes. I never said all big ships are min/maxed. I never said that all of them were built for ruthless efficiency. I only play on RP servers, so I see much, much smaller/lighter ships. If you have a problem with that and feel like yelling at me, please take it to the PMs. I'm not trying to insult anyone, hurt anyone's feelings, or force my ideas onto everyone. I don't see the point of you guys picking apart what I think is nicely balanced, since it is only intended toward my faction members. PLEASE refrain from complaining about it unless you are a USSF member.

No problem, good to clear that up. But to continue this topic; as a ship gets bigger and bigger, interior can only go so far. After a while a ship will have nearly everything, hangers, functional bridge, ... that adding more rooms is becoming pointless and so it mainly will gain mass because you need to fill the gaps.

Also different styles of detailing and interior management also have an effect on mass. Even interiour can add mass and armor to a ship without taking away system space, maybe even create it. An easy example would be the carrier I'm building, to be more exact the bridge.

(it's an easy example and I got the pic already uploaded)

The whole bridge wasn't part of the actual ship design, it got added on top of the ship. This means that I can relocate interiour outside the actual ship and so save interior space. I could build a number of building on the outer hull moving stuff like medbays, rooms, etc to the outside saving me systemspace but also increasing it's mass.

That's probably because the server you play on has default turning speed which simply sucks

Spend some time on planets. Seriously, after you've built some things on planets it kind of resets your idea of scale in the game. Or at least it works for me.

Spend some time on planets. Seriously, after you've built some things on planets it kind of resets your idea of scale in the game. Or at least it works for me.
Until a ship twice the size of the entire planet does a quick flyby :P

And planets are way too laggy :(
