    United Federation of Planets

    Proposed temporary alliance

The United Federation of Planets is an alliance Starfleet has been planning for about 6 months. While naturally we get the name and core idea from the United Federation of Planets from Star Trek, this is as far as the similarities go. This is not an attempt to draw members into Starfleet, or to bring more factions into a Star Trek style. The idea is to bring together factions in a fashion that does not restrict their operations, but rather encourages positive inter-faction relations. We will go into more depth of this when we release the final UFP alliance.

This is a variation of the alliance. drafted to ensure that factions who use Elwyn Eternity have an enjoyable transition from the current universe to the new one. The terms of this alliance are written to ensure that a faction has a grace period to which they can go around and re faction their things, and test the new game mechanics. It is no secret that several of the larger factions have been growing more violent towards each other in recent weeks, and this is to ensure that no faction can take advantage of the turbulent time while factions are setting up.

Below are the terms of the alliance.

    Section 1 - Attacks
    • Member Factions must not fire weapons of any kind on each other. This stands for attacking ships and stations left unattended but clearly faction owned/a known class, aswell was AI defense systems (turrets or drones) and unconventional weapons (warp-gate traps, Disintegrator torpedoes).

    Section 2 - Sectors
    • Member Factions must not attempt to claim another factions territory. This involves you claiming it for yourself, or destroying the faction module, leaving it neutral.
    • Member Factions should not salvage for resources in another factions space with out express permission of the owner factions command staff.

    Section 3 - Rightful Property
    • If you happen to find a ship/station/planet that a member faction clearly owns but does not have a faction claim on, you must notify them immediately, and not claim it for yourself.

    Violating these terms
The punishment for violating these terms varies on a case by case basis. The more severe the violation, the more likely it is for your place in this alliance to be revoked. In basic it is a 2 strike system. If your faction is caught violating these rules once, you will receive a strike. If you are caught doing so again, you will be removed from this alliance and your faction will no longer be protected by its terms, meaning member factions can attack you. Serious infringements can warrant immediate removal.Member Ignorance is not an excuse, it is your responsibility to notify them of these terms.

    Eligibility and Entrance
This is an open alliance. To join you simply need to have a faction on Elwyn Eternity, just leave a post here to say you would like your faction to be added (Faction leaders only, members generally don't have enough rank to make this sort of decision).
We will update this thread with the list of member factions as they join.

    Time Span
All though you can join this alliance now, it's terms will not take effect until Elwyn's reset. It will then continue to last for approximately 7 days. The expiration date will be posted when it is decided. This seems like a fair amount of time to setup a solid foundation in the new universe.

This faction system will work great once the server is set up and running with factions owning space, however it could be difficult to get to that stage if all the factions get into small arguments. Lets hope this alliance can prevent this

Most of those terms are very limiting considering this is a ceasefire to help everyone get set up on EE after the reset.

The terms are just there to make sure everything is fair.. we are are not limiting anything such as where you can go, but who you can shoot at. This essentially stops warfare for a short amount of time

if you have suggestions for changes, we are willing to hear them, but a few people looked through the draft and limiting activity was not something that was said.

1: This is the basic concept of a ceasefire agreement, no objections here.

2: If territory belongs to a faction, it is impossible to claim it without destroying the faction module first. The only exception being the galaxy-system containing the homebase before any faction members were able to get online to claim said galaxy-system. Violating this term(unless in mentioned special case) is automatically a violation of term 1. And mentioned special case will likely not happen after a week, resulting in term 2 being redundant.

3: This term allows indirect warfare if a faction claims all territory around another faction's territory. It can be countered by respawning the asteroids, but that is at the cost of FP, limiting the recieving faction's resources.

4: Not claiming it falls under term 1 and 2; notifying them can prove impossible.

While most of your point is true, there is no harm in having redundancies in rule sets, to help prevent loop holes from being exploited. In the cases where rules do technically overlap, it only harms the offending faction more by making them immediately break two rules right off the bat.

    That's why this rule exists:
The punishment for violating these terms varies on a case by case basis.
    notifying them can prove impossible.
This agreement is only effective for the first week, so if none of the hypothetical faction in question's command staff is online at any point in time to receive said notification about possible unclaimed territory, then it is their own fault, no fault of this proposal.

The rest of the points that you made appear to be simply nit-picking the way the document is structured and doesn't really apply do any legitimate concerns over actual operation of said agreement. If you would like to, please feel free to clarify on some of your other concerns.

may i also point out that most factions will have accounts here, and will be able to be PM'd here if ingame chat fails.
