The UCS (United Colonial Systems) is a conglomerate company founded to colonize the vastness of space. We primarily deal with constructing space faring vessels for the civilian market. These starships include freighters of various design and role and their escort craft.

The FR-3748-A2 Woodchuck (Precision Salvage Freighter)

Pirates shot my crate, I guess I need top put shields in them

The Woodchuck features a powerful and precise salvage laser. This salvage laser cuts a 3x3 hole into anything you aim it at and has built in optics for fine control. Each emitter in the array is tied individually into one of nine fusion batteries and each one has a matched rated output of 0.0949.

The Woodchuck also features reinforced framing for it's "Modular Space Storage Crate" dock and landing pad.

The A2 refit reattaches the turrets that flew off for some reason and adds a single pointless combat ineffective AMC. This is located in the primary mining laser array and is intended to break the shields of drifting ships although it's too weak to allow the Woodchuck to harvest larger ships that have not already been destroyed by other craft.

Armaments: Four L3 Military Grade Turrets

The FR-302-A1 Woodpecker (Precision Mining Craft)

The Woodpecker is a support mining craft designed to be carried by the Woodchuck. It's single mining laser is able to more precisely gather ores without wasting so much storage space on rock and dirt. This mining laser is also equipped with onboard optics and has an output of 0.0707.

It took quite a bit of planning to get that 3x3 salvage laser all lined up and routed into the \"batteries\" without having them ever touch.

Also no downloads yet, I want to be 100% happy with the ship until I upload so I don\'t have to re-upload it. Since posting this I\'ve already identified a problem in one of the screenshots

I try to take work in progress pictures but when I get on a role I always forget:

The Woodpecker can be seen behind, I had to design it first so I knew the scale of the ship

Behind is my first frieghtor, a simple small cargo ship, nothing exciting there but I will post it eventually.

These designs are creative, functional, and look good! And a solid 3x3 laser! Are downloads going to be available?

I\'ll probably have the Woodpecker available for download tonight. I like to take my time going over the ships before I upload them to save myself a re-upload if I find anything wrong with it. I\'m going away for Labor Day though so it\'ll be a few days.

I\'d like to be able to test them out. I haven\'t really tried my hand at much salvaging, with it being so easy to get credits and all, and it might be fun to do so. Besides, Verkit Industries needs some more hull, and a decent salvager could be in need for that.

must have been a bitch to get right.

I tried something vaguely similar with AMCs on a ship I recently built, and screwed it all up.

Only realized as much when I finished the thing, /cry

Yeah I really like doing both military and civilian. The Military ship design is very rigid, it\'s all about armor, shields and firepower, they have to be killing machines. When building civilian ships I get to try and be more creative, more artistic (something I struggle with) and I don\'t have my self imposed military standards to build by.

I got the concept idea for the ship while at work and started construction as soon as I got home, it took about 5 hours to get everything flushed out but it turned out far better then I had imagined. I am very pleased with the way the green glowing \"salvage fusion batteries\" turned out, and I may have to attempt a heavy precision mining freighter to compete with the ODC-Cruiser.

It\'s a very basic \"Crate\" I made to get \"Bulk Shipments\" in on my server, when you buy a mass of shields or power they come in a crate like this. Also the crate shown in the picture is not the same as the one that comes with the download, it\'s been slightly updated.

Updated the Woodchuck to comply with recent docking changes

Any chance of us getting a crack at your freighters? Edit: disregard, I\'d thought you were working on some additional civilian ship designs before I deciphered what I was looking at in the pictures, cheers on the awesome ships though man!

I do have two other freighters and a civilian fighter design plus pirate variants of one of the freighters and the fighter I just have not made a post for them all as they are not special enough to warrant individual threads
