Turret Help

Ok, so this new docking system (new to me, i haven't played in awhile) has made it very difficult for me to make turrets like i use to when i only needed 1 connection point in a compact design. now that i have to build rail axis out it makes things bigger, so can anyone kinda help me learn to build compact turrets?

I have to recommend downloading rail turrets from the Community Content, breaking them down, and rebuilding them from scratch. It's either that, or find a good mentor on a friendly build server.
