As I understand it the Direction a Turret Faces is dependent on which way its Docking point is attached.

If the docking point is upright the turret faces forwards, If its upside down it faces backwards, Left and Right facing Docking points give up and down facing turrets, and Forwards and backwards Give Left and right turrets.

but What if the Direction a turret pointed, and the center of its arc of Fire was dependent on the Orientation off its Bobby unit instead. this means you could have a flat deck with turrets built to look and fire Left right and behind, or you could have turrets that aim up away from the Deck, obviously you'd have to align their guns with the bobby but that should be easy enough for players

    What do you think?

It\'s how it should be anyways. Great idea. Can you work around the problem for now by building the turret in adirection that opposes what the game would normally have it placed? Like if the game would normally place the turret facing forward but you want it facing backward, will it work building the turret backwards?

If he did that, the turret would shoot backwards.

As far as I can tell if you build the turret with its AMC\'s pointing any direction other than front they will still target target things to the front of the Core and your AMC\'s will just shoot off sideways to go to where the turret considers forwards. with this Idea your Core determents how your turret docks, but your Bobby is like a cock pit, it determines witch way the turret thinks its facing. you\'d still need to think your way around the design as depending on how the docking port is layed out your turrets core would point a certain way, so port side turrets would point starboard whn upside down, and perhaps forwards when on a right facing Dock

When you place a single docking module you should be allowed to edit the size of the area to make it smaller, because side turrets concealed within the hull (unless massive) are generally too tall and look ugly with the standard docking area. You could also halve the height of the docking area and get twice as many turrets in.

Yes, a single block docking area would be good, and spacially conservative as well.

I\'m not sure about the solution (the facing of the Bobby AI block governing the default direction-of-face for the turret), but I agree with the outlining of the problem (that we need some way to choose which direction a turret faces by default).

What about this: when a turret hasn\'t shot for more than, let\'s say, 5 seconds, it will return to its original postition (AKA: he will not point upwards anymore if that was his last impuls, but he will point parallel with your ship, if you attached him that way ofc). What about this?
