I was building some internal automated hanger systems using area trigger zones in a flat slab to activate plexdoors, powerdrains for decloaking and repair beams etc. I noticed large amounts of lag while flying through the trigger zones in a 10x10x20 perma stealth ship while testing.
A trick to reduce lag is to checkboard the triggerzone leaving empty gaps. For whatever reason this reduced my lag very noticeably even though techinically the trigger zone is now made up of a couple hundred non continuous blocks rather than one continuous sheet.
