Little is known of a race deemed ' The Host' or even if they are a race at all. Pilots of these ships have never been encountered, no bodies in the few wrecks we have, no response from hails, not even any life support systems for a crew however they do have a highly sophisticated computer system onboard.
They just come from the darkness and attack without provocation. Any ships they attack that have a chance to call for help have simply vanished by the time any can arrive They are only found on the eastern edge of the galactic front and have only been active for a short time.
The knowledge we have of them at this point is mainly deduced from our brief encounters with their warmachines, however, what we do know is they were awoken.
Exploreres on the eastern fringes of known space came accross a planet like no other. To the naked eye it was a baron ice world but sensors picked heat signatures inside the planet. A scouting party was sent down to investigate the Planet, ice that was melted by their landing revealed a metal surface with no visable entries on the surface. The team decided to try and cut through the metal but all attampts didnt even mark it, At the point the mother ship high in orbit was attacked, 3 unknown ships appeared from nowhere and destroyed the vessel in seconds. They stopped transmitting data at that point but a small military party was sent to investigate what had happened. their long range scanners concluded that the planet was still there but before they could get close enough to do a thorough investigation they were intercepted and obliterated whilst still comfortably within the boarders of Empire Space.
The current hypothesis about The Host is they are an AI collective put into a shut down state, but the exploratory vessel re-awakened them and now they intend to do whatever they were programmed for. They could be defending something deeper into 'their' space or some sort of ancient automated war fighters. We do not know, and even worse we dont know what built them. The ships they use for combat are very interesting though, they dont use hull as they dont need to support a crew they just have highly advanced shield systems over exposed components.
We have only 3 ships on record so far:
The Hollow Fighter. With a mass of 200, over 100,000 shields enough fire power to rip through a cruiser and they often come in swarms they are not to be underestimated.

The Angel Fish. 2500 mass, almost 500,000 shield manouverable and deadly This ship puts out around 50,000 dps and has been recorded in trios as well as supporting other ships.

The Eye of Terror. 12,000 mass, 1.4 million shield, cannons that can cut a capital ship in half and has been seen with varying turret configurations and can out run our fighters. Was only seen during the military intereception in a pair, along with support craft.
