I was thinking more along the lines of actually killing a faction by way of hostile actions in some form.

    1. Get a single spy in the faction
    2. Wait til the spy has gained sufficient power to declare the disbandment
    3. Wait til all member with sufficient power to void that statement take a break
    4. Have the spy disband the faction
    5. Profit!!!

    1. Get tons of spies in the faction
    2. Wait til 95% of the faction consists of spies
    3. Pull all spies out
    4. Profit!!!

    1. Destroy all resources of a faction
    2. Keep doing so
    3. Wait til the faction gets rid of itself due to boredom and annoyance.

As long as players play, a faction isn't killed.
Even if that faction is suffering heavy losses. As long as its members continue gathering resources/building up again...
    It will continue to exist.
The only way to destroy a faction, is to take away all their enjoyment in the game.
Considering the limited population of Starmade currently, I heavily advice against using such tactics, though.

As I once told cirda, to kill a faction you have to deplete their morale, break their will to carry on playing the game. A battle is always a distraction to achieve a greater goal. No matter how many ships you destroy you can never win without an end game plan. Kinda like what happened to Baalzann if anyone remembers him.

It's dark and all but.... krazy Two :P[DOUBLEPOST=1414817241,1414816842][/DOUBLEPOST]Also why factions like AA whom have no game plan and use battle as the ONLY alternative will be fun to break ;)

Well, Korke broke the LMC with very little effort, so I'd say that factions are far more fragile than they seem.

They are fragile, but only under the right circumstances.

I think if a new GTA comes out, factions will die. It really only takes for some a few core active members for a faction to fall. For smaller factions it takes the leader to play another game for it to fall.

The good news is that the community can't really shrink more than what it currently is. So the future is bright! (since it can't get darker, :P)

    New topic!

What do you think will happen to the current factions when the game hits beta?

-Shrug- Some'll stick around unchanged. Others will grow. New ones will come to be, some will end up devoured in favour of gaining more FP..
We'll see stuff change. Not sure what exactly will, but, it's interesting, nevertheless.

I like to build. And wonder if it will be able do this on a server.

Maybe people would buy my ships so I can buy materials, I dont want to mine. Maybe factions could pay a shipyard a certain number of FP per turn and in return they can use the shipyards ships. That would be cool and introduce the beginning of a real economy in the game!

The Vaygr are going to come back in force and terrorize everyone.... Just kidding, we'll either turn into the mega factions or stay small but powerful (knowledge is power).

OR we'll form an old vet coalition and crush anyone who opposes us with our glorious alpha technology.

That last option sounds kinda cool...

    I'd be okay with that.

Or we could have our own alpha server, and use our knowledge of prior versions to kick the arses of newcomers...
"What do mean, our lasers disappeared?!? And what are all these 'D1000s' that have replaced our missile tubes?"
