So a sad thing happened while playing today...

Not all of us enjoy just building and as the server admin, I take this personally. I have not been able to get pirates to spawn but one time on their own and by manually spawning them using /initiate_wave (which I do not intend on babysitting my players and spawning things for them to kill...)

I've done a clean install, the following options are enabled in my config:

    ENABLE_SIMULATION = true //Universe AI simulation
CONCURRENT_SIMULATION = 256 //How many simulation groups may be in the universe simultaniously (performance)
    ENEMY_SPAWNING = true //Enables enemy spawing
SIMULATION_SPAWN_DELAY = 420 //How much seconds between simulation spawn ticks

I have the following ships enemy enabled as well:

    Isanth Type-Zero B-
    Isanth Type-Zero Bb
    Isanth Type-Zero C-
    Isanth Type-Zero Cp
    Isanth-VI

Does the SIMULATION_SPAWN_DELAY need to be lowered dramatically? (We've gone several hours in populated space building with no attacks. Last night's session was about 3 hours.)

I should note... traders do spawn and have been seen on a regular basis. Here is a log of one such event:

    [2014-11-10 23:01:02] [BLUEPRINT][LOAD] <system> loaded Isanth-VI as "MOB_Isanth-VI_1415678462796_0" in (8, 6, 8)

How to make pirates spawn without messing with config

    1. Go find a pirate station with god mode on

    2. place a build block on it and use it

    3. use /change_sector right by a players base

    4. Let the pirate waves wipe them out :D

    5. Rinse and repeat

Previous to the latest update, Pirate bases had Pirates around them (IIRC). They no longer do and hanging out nearby pirate bases has not spawned any pirates.

Hmm must be related to the fact that the current one is about to be replaced

    1) Coat ship in gold
    2) Brag about how you've never been robbed.
    3) Wander into 'bad' part of space
    ????
    4) Profit!

(Isn't there a spawn code for this?)

I believe this is because they live closely to the center of the galaxy. I'm not 100% sure but I think the spawn rate of pirates (and pirate stations) near the galaxy center is low compared to the chance at the edges of it.

Does this prevent them from spawning around pirate bases as well? I seem to remember pirates being around every pirate base before this update...

I have a brand new server and even the /initiate_wave command doesn't spawn them. the config files have the A.I enabled.

By default, no ships are enemy enabled. Under catalog, admin, select a ship and hit permission. Good luck, this normally works to get them to spawn on their own, but in my case they do not.

It's a bit weird that you can't find them. Did you try initiate_wave ? Maybe try searching for MOB and see if it gets you some results. I'm having more problems finding the trading guild than pirates to be honest.

Yeah, initiate wave works fine. The log in my original post shows traders spawning, but no pirates. I even set up a base between two pirate bases in a galaxy edge sector to see if I could favor the odds toward pirate spawns. My server log is rather barren of errors and no pirates yet.

Here (for example) is an initiate I did yesterday to test:

    [2014-11-15 09:43:16] [ADMINCOMMAND] ------ used: 'INITIATE_WAVE' with args [1, 1]
    [2014-11-15 09:43:17] [BLUEPRINT][LOAD] <system> loaded Isanth-VI as "MOB_Isanth-VI_1416062597363_0" in (-43, 18, 52)
    [2014-11-15 09:43:17] [BLUEPRINT][LOAD] <system> loaded Isanth-VI as "MOB_Isanth-VI_1416062597370_0" in (-43, 18, 52)
    [2014-11-15 09:43:17] [BLUEPRINT][LOAD] <system> loaded Isanth Type-Zero Bb as "MOB_Isanth Type-Zero Bb_1416062597372_0" in (-43, 18, 52)
    [2014-11-15 09:43:17] [BLUEPRINT][LOAD] <system> loaded Isanth Type-Zero B- as "MOB_Isanth Type-Zero B-_1416062597374_0" in (-43, 18, 52)
    [2014-11-15 09:43:17] [BLUEPRINT][LOAD] <system> loaded Isanth Type-Zero Cp as "MOB_Isanth Type-Zero Cp_1416062597376_0" in (-43, 18, 52)

And this is the log shortly thereafter (notice no pirate spawning...)

If you look at the timestamps ... that's about 2.5 hours with no spawns. I know these spawns show up in the log since I have one from the other day (Original post) that shows traders spawning.

Our server is having the same problem

We had one player fly through more than 200 sectors without a single one spawning

I think it's a problem with the latest build?
