Something to spice up where battles get fought and bases built:
What if some regions of space (entire system and/or smaller groups of sectors) had additional effects on ship/station systems?
We see in science fiction things like nebula interfering with sensors all the time, what if we had some regions of space that acted like an inherent radar jammer? Or that caused a steady drain to power/shields?
Could end up with entire systems that become "badlands" that you have innate jump inhibitor, radar jammer, AND power/shield drain effects that make them incredibly hazardous to move through.
Wouldn't have to be all negative effects. Could have regions that increase jump charge rate so that its faster and easier to move through them. Regions that increase your shields, or areas that make cloaking impossible. Or heck, how about a system effect that lets players "Get Lucky" when mining in a ship the same way they do by hand?
Might make some systems very valuable to players, valuable enough to fight over who gets them.
