First of all, I would like to talk about the good bits of the new crafting system.
    • It is simple, easy to understand and doesn't require a lot of time.
    • There are no more infinite loops possible.
    • You can filter the blocks you are looking for.
    • The universe will get improved for the better because of it.
Now for the not so good aspects of it:
    • For efficient crafting you have to do a lot of calculations.
    • You need multiple refineries and micro assemblers for one tree if you don't want resources to go to the wrong places.
Now for the how to improve bit: (Edit: 5 and 6 are new)
    1. There should be a block that fillters the blocks that go to certain assemblers. It also should be able to only let a certain amount of items to go to certain assemblers. Explenation: if you need 50 nocx capsules to go to one refinery, 150 to another and then 40 to another, then you would be able to say that of every 240 nocx capsules 50 go there, 150 there and 40 there. It would then wait untill it got 240 nocx capsules and once it had that amount, they would all go to the right assembler.
    2. Thrusters! They really shouldn't need as many power reactor modules to be able to craft them.
    3. In the very first capsule refinery there should be an area where you can type how much ore and how many shards you need to create one block. This preferably should be automatic and based on the last macro assembler that creates the block you want.
    4. Factories should only use power when they are processing something.
    5. Coloured hull should only require 60 capsules.
    6. Glass should be a lot cheaper to make.
Feel free to suggest other improvements.

    I have only one suggestion

The ore shards made into capsules look the same and have the same name ie: parsen capsule as the parsen ores.

My suggestion would be to rotate one set of capsules to the horizontal. This is only a visual thing to help with knowing which is which

They don't look the same: the parsen crystal capsules emit light and you can see a crystal like shard in the capsule. Parstun capsules have a smooth rectangular object in it and don't emit light. Same applies to all the other capsules.

I often have to do things in the dark, so I always make sure I get some crystal capsules first to have some light sources.

Each assembler should only be able to hold ingredients for and products from 2 production cycles (2 instead of 1 to avoid glitches in consumption and start of next cycle).

Linked factory inputs only increase the amount of ingredients it can hold by 10
Linked factory enhancers increase the input and output storage by 2 and production cycles per 3 seconds by 1.
Linked plex stores increase the output storage by 10

    Does this sound fair?

May be a good way to differentiate between military outposts and factories ...
But I agree that this looks weird.

Your #1 is a bit complicated. It isn't really necessary to have those limitations and things you have to take into account. The goal of this thread is to make crafting better, easier in the beginning and more complete later on in the game. I like the idea of enhancers increasing the output per 3 seconds, and that factories can hold the ingredients for two cycles, but not that they can only hold the ingredients from 2 cycles.
Take the power reactor module for example. You need five charged crystal circuits for one reactor. If it can only hold two, what will it do with the rest?

@FunnyBunny14 hold input for 2 cycles, not just 2 items.

If you want it easier to craft small things, go ahead and imagine bigger numbers (was just an example).

But I would like factories for 10 products also have 10+ blocks.

That would give you a reason to make larger ones. If you chain them up properly, you only need to increase the last output capacity.

It's just that it already takes a lot of blocks to recreate one crafting tree, and I wanted to make it easier to recreate them, so those ideas of max amount of items isn't one of the things I want to see in the game, but it's just my personal opinion.

I also want to have that 10m^3 macro assembly that can assemble me a house to live in, a car, and a Zeppelin-UFO :D
And don't forget the 50m high Pyramid which I want for getting remembered in 2000 years just for having used this assembly :p
And this house should be able to replicate itself if you provide enough resources, so other family members don't have to build their own ^^

Has anyone seen the pyramid building ship yard? Anyone? No? Fine, no pyramid for you then. ;)

I think there were 1950s "world of the future" futurist shows that said we'd have this by the year 2000. Still waiting for my jetpack and hovercar!

I agree with pretty much everything you guys have mentioned.

but i have to add a couple of things.

1: regular hull blocks. they dont seem all THAT expensive at first, but considering just how many you have to make for the average ship and nevermind space stations, their cost in bulk quickly adds up and can really chew through a ton of resources, just for a very simple building material.

2: glass. all the new glass types are even more expensive then the hulls to make. for example to make 10 blocks of regular glass. you need 120 nocx crystal shards! (thats 1,200 nocx capsules) thats a sh*t load of shards just for 10 measly glass blocks! (hull also require 120 capsules of material, but their material is the raw rocks which are abundant in the universe. glass require 120 of the different kind of crystals depending on the color. glass is more expensive then making any of the glowing shard crystals!)

3: wedges/pentas/corners. like iv mentioned in another thread, when converting a block of hull into wedges and such you should get more then one depending on what shape you are makeing. so if i make a hull into wedges i expect to get two wedges for every hull converted. as is, everything converts at a 1:1 ratio and it just doesn't make sense.

All these cost issues are really making it very hard to reasonably decorate my space station (which is ALL made of rocks BTW)

I think the reason they only give one corner for is because right now hp and armor stats are the same regardless of the volume. That being said, glass is indeed ridiculously expensive. But hull is most likely going to be very valuable resource when the hp system comes into play, so I think we just need to see how that works out. Hull will also be easier to get once the new rocks spawn on planets, so it shouldn't be that much of an issue (3 tekt and 3 dolom for 1 grey hull seems fair enough). Coloured hull should be a lot cheaper though, they should only use 60 capsules. Not 120.

Hmm, I thought to give the new crafting system a try, only to find out that I couldn't place a, with the inventory crafted, macro assembler on a ship. What am I missing here and why is this not possible? I had already imagined big factory ships crossing the void, but that seems out of the question for now...

You're not missing anything. It isn't possible because there are certain blocks that can't be placed on ships, like plex undeathinators, shop modules and the factories (refinery, micro/macro assembler and their enhancers).

Ah, so this means I need to go to a planet, or build a space station I presume. Or could an Astroid be used for this too?
Sorry for the maybe obvious questions, but I'm really very new to this all. ;-)

Asteroids are like ships when it comes to the blocks that can be placed on it. You will indeed have to go to a planet or build a space station.

Ah right, time to blot down some current coordinates then, before attempting planet fall. ;-) Thanks!

    I've gotta agree with this
132 capsules for ONE hull block is far too many.
I think capsules should be removed from hull recipes altogether (why not have it be rock+metal grate? rocks aren't used for anything at the moment, even though real rocks contain valuable stuff like silica)

Agree, the main disadvantage of hulls should not be cost, but mass (how they slow down your ship). You already pay for more thrusters and passive modules.

Hardened hulls however may cost something as they increase HP by reduced mass/size.

No, capsules are a means to have limits once stack size limits are in place. You will have to make capsules into ingots to save space in the inventories. It also adds an extra layer, so they are not going to be removed. It wasn't 132 capsules btw, it is just 60 for grey (30 tekt and 30 dolom) and 120 for every other colour. 12 capsules isn't a lot, but it will be once you start mass producing everything, so I just simply suggested that coloured hull would only use 60 of one capsule type instead of 120.

And rocks are used! You just need to make capsules of them first and then you can use those capsules to make hull.
