Suggestion for Throttle Slider

    Sometimes it's annoying when you are in ship combat, and you don't need power for speed as much as weapons, but if you move forward, it drains your power quickly. My suggestion is to create some kind of slider for the power so that only a certain amount is diverted to thrust vs weapons. This way, the ship will only move as fast as you need it to, and will allow you to reserve your power for weapons when you need to use them.

    I think, we can assume that trust gonna pass a big change, like other systems of the ship. So i would say that the best is wait for a talk about specifics from the devs like Schema and Calbiri

    I've been thinking about this a lot recently, as I am quite enamoured with the idea of flying around like a fighter, and also a more realistic flight mode with 0 deceleration. There's currently a server.cfg option that does this (dampening). With 0 dampening, there is no deceleration when you take your finger off the acceleration key. With a ridiculously high dampening, the opposite is true. If there was a block that swapped this value for individual ships, or even key binding for it, this could improve gameplay to an extent.

    I think best solution would be a Combination of the System that is providing thrust to the Side the Engine is facing and a toggleable Dampener System wich just fires the Engines to Slowdown the Ship. This Dampener should be Autoactive if the Ship is freefloating and NOT Docked to anything.

    But i would agree on an Thrust Slider (Maybe Mousewheel? ) so we can control everthing better.

    No. instead we should have a power direction system, allow us to dictate how much power each subsystem gets access to, so if you have no chance of lowering the enemies shields, and need to run, you direct power to shields and propulsion. if you need to kill them faster, direct a higher percentage to weapons.

    That's right Rimmer, but we would need some kind of Shortcut Acess to these Sliders to for examples toggle some Presets or it would be to Complicated to manage in midfight

    The way I see it, all ships should have 0 dampening if there's someone in them in Flight Mode, and should have default dampening if the person is building or not in the ship. (Or there should be an on/off switch so you can walk around while the ship's moving... I personally love doing this. The only problem is when you get warped out of your ship... but that'll be completely fixed soon, hopefully.)

    Or maybe something like using the number keys as a percentage of thrust? Hit one for 10%, 5 for 50%, 0 for 100% etc. Maybe have + be some kind of afterburner (150% thrust at some huge expense of power) and ` could be full stop.

    Actually, with my idea for the block the adjusts dampening...

    Let's say it's a block. The block has the options: Off, Lite, Moderate, Heavy. Off makes thrust perhaps 20% more efficient, plus no slowdown. Lite has a 10% efficiency bonus, and only some slowdown. Moderate is what it currently is now. Heavy would be 5% more/less efficient and comes to a stop very quickly depending on the size of the ship.

    Add this block to large ships with massive interiors. Set to Off. Add creatures to the interior, within the ships gravity. Set floating across the universe. ???. Profit.

    I think this has been suggested to Schema directly already.

    Could work quite nicely, I think, and it would make it so that joysticks aren't mostly useless.

    For me it is more important that -if you hit the speed limit- thrusters only take that many energy as they can use, instead of wasting it to the FTL-void.
