Stuck/Stranded by spawn point

I ran into a situation which, while entirely avoidable, seems like there ought to be a solution to other than "don't do this". While flying around on the UK server, I set up a secret base on an asteroid, including a spawn point. Later, due to some glitch I fell out of my ship (as if in a gravity field) despite being nowhere near a planet and not having a field generator. A server glitch logged me out. When I got back in, I was several sectors away from ship. I suicided, then picked up my spawn point tile, expecting this to cancel my spawn point. It did not.
I ended up "walking" several sectors to find a shop to buy a new core. Is there a way around this (once it's happenned)? No one else was online and I'm not an admin, so couldn't teleport or get blocks or anything. Thanks.
