I recently tried starting up the game, with atmosphere shader set to none, and it still would not start:( It gave me this error message: ErrorDIalogException: Error-Dialog-Exception: data//shader/plasma/plasma.vet.glsl data//shader/plasma/plasma.frag.glsl Fragment shader(s) failed to link, vertex shader(s) linked. I tried updating my graphics diver, but it is already at the newest update (It is an ATI Radeon X1200 Series, on update 10.2 I believe). If there is a fix, then great! if not I understand, even though i am eager to try out the game.

from what I can see from the error it might not be your hardware but the software/files. follow the errors path which goes as such

    1.Downloads

    2.starmade folder

    3.data folder

    4.shader folder

    5.plasma folder.

after following this path then go get a new version of the files plasma.vet.glsl and plasma.frag.glsl then replace the exsisting files with the new ones. take the old files (if they are there) and move them to your desktop incase this wont solve the problem so that you dont need to have the regret of finding out you need the deleted file (I\'ve made mistakes with editing and moving files in buggier games and deleting files that I find out later that I needed to keep). after replacing the file and moving the other files out of the way you should be able to start starmade and also you must move the files first or else the new files will be renamed to not cause a computer malfunction. If you only get one of those 2 errors then only change the file that is in that error. I do not know if this WILL solve the problem but it MIGHT. if you have the graphics driver you say you do then it should work and if not then I\'m not shure what to say.

I have this problem. Every-freaking-body who has a Radeon card has this problem! Please fix! I tried everything in this and a dozen other threads. I reinstalled like 4 times. I turned the shaders off and on, I went into settings.cfg and turned off every mention of \"SHADER\".

The issue is actually somewhere at your PCs, drivers, secondary software or your card itself... not much that a game can do to solve client-sided issues.

My error happens with the atmosphere shader set to normal. My error is with the shadow shader when starting the game with the shadows on with any quality setting and I get this error \"ErrorDialogException: ERROR-DIALOG-EXCEPTION: data//shader/shadow/view_fragment.glsl\" \"0:8(12): warning: extension GL_EXT_gpu_shader4 unsupported in fragment shader
0:10(14): error: syntax error, unexpected NEW_IDENTIFIER, expecting \"{\". I am not sure this may be a hardware issue I have Intel Sandybridge/Ivybridge graphics on ubuntu 12.04.

But only if I turn on normalmapping or shadows (even barebone)
