If a person is playing single player how big of fleet are they going to have starting off? How about if you just join a server how big of fleet will you have unless you join an already established group?
Oh no! The days of single players being able to be a dominating force on a server might be coming to an end? No, this is horrible! How dare the devs make the multiplayer game have actual depth instead of "everyone stock up on 2 billion of everything in their homebase!"

Oh dear God no, please not that low.

You have to realize on my server station I have over 200 million metallic mesh alone sitting in storage. I have raw mats like Mattise crystal in storage in the 10-20 million range each.

Even 50k per block is going to make it a nightmare to try and convert my stores over into cargo!
I'd agree with you in the current meta, but I'm pretty sure in the future you'll actually be using your treasury to either produce warships to defend all your territory, or be turning it into systems to sell to people who need them, and convert some of your physical assets into credits.

What doesn't Creative Mode have at the moment? '~'
It's missing a lot of the flora. A few from each planet type's flora, plus the entirety of the ice flora.

So if I have a sorting system using a dozen storage modules each of those storage modules will need it's own separate cargo area defined?

With a shipyard you can kind of do this already. Repairing a ship will put all it's cargo into the shipyards storage.
After all it is going to be a pain to sort them all in huge areas again.

also including the ability for sending items between the storage of different entities
For how I understood what was said.
If you want to keep an old split of blocks separate all the time, you would need a cargo area for each group.
I imagine more people will end up using a few large generalized cargo areas, naming them and using the filter more often.

For a sorting system I think you would start with at least one large enough to hold the player inventory amount. (until cross entity transfer)
The speed of sorting and moving cargo will be limited by the cargo space of each step in the chain.

I really do think this is a step in the right direction. Mine a planet, and be proud when you make the cargo zone to hold it.

this may have bean asked but will i be able to just add storage aria blocks to my current cargo sorting system and keep all my pulls and sorting settings the same?

another point recently all the c/v connections in my sector broke du to a bug. how would it affect cargo if this was to happen again?

Again from what I understand you would just add cargo area blocks to each of your storage boxes. So at most a temp fix is a bunch of boxes on the side of a station.

Finally! I can make cargo drop ships! Do you know what this means for multi planetary bases?!

So if I have a sorting system using a dozen storage modules each of those storage modules will need it's own separate cargo area defined? That's really going to make the entire system really complicated, you have to plan ahead of time knowing how many of each block you will have in each storage modules so you can set aside enough cargo space for that specific module. I really was much more hoping for being able to define a cargo area and link my storage modules into that and it will store the blocks as it needs to. Each linked chest would only display it's specific sorted item but they would all use a single "cargo bay" to store materials.
Maybe have one storage locker (or more if there is a slot limit) which pulls all block types and is backed by a large cargo area, then have "sorting" lockers which pull specific block types/categories from the cargo-linked locker...? This would continue to give easy sorted access to each block type, while maximizing usage of the cargo space. The disadvantage I can see is that to see the total amount of a block available you'd have to look in the cargo-linked locker. I'm assuming that the sorting lockers would pull up to each stack limit, leaving any remainder in the cargo-linked locker [and cargo area] and pulling more when some is withdrawn. The sorted-access storage lockers should not need to be connected directly to cargo in this scheme.

We're going to need an AI update so we can run AI ships as escort fleets for all these soon to be fat, wallowing targets cargo ships...

I still have the same old launcher in my steam path. Even after deleting the local content and redownloading the game. I'd hate to have to manually download it from the provided links every time there's an update.

While this is my current preferred method, there is a bug that tends to lose all the pull/sort settings along with all display settings (basically any block state) when reconstructing the ship. I haven't quite nailed it down, but I assume it's when you load in a ship via blueprint, then dock the ship in the shipyard, deconstruct to design and the reconstruct. I haven't had a lot of problem with ships hand built, but my friend tends to use blueprints because the shipyards can have odd bugs like this. (Ironically cause by using blueprints I assume)

Firing at an asteroid would create high velocity particles in space some of which will fly back at you. Even something the size of a BB becomes seriously deadly.
That's what a basic deflector shield array is for. Otherwise, your ship would also be vulnerable to naturally occurring high velocity particles that break off of comets or are left over from collisions of celestial bodies.

In fact, I think I remember something about using phasers not just blowing the asteroid into pieces, but to vaporizing it into a quickly-diffusing gas.

I had this problem, just simply go into your steam directory , rename the old launcher to 'starmade-starter_old' or something along the lines, and take the new launcher files, drag it into that directory and rename that new launcher to 'StarMade-starter' and it should run the new launcher as it does for me.

For example (and this is pure speculation on how it could work, as it all depends on what schema and the team conclude on adding in) if one storage block holds say 12 slots in its inventory for stacks, then one cargo area (and therefore cargo crate) might add an additional 16 or 20. The thing to remember is that cargo is treated as an extension of storage blocks.
What I would REALLY like to do is combine my entire stockpile into one massive container and just use the search function to find everything. Will it be possible to add that many item types to one storage?

EDIT: I'd also like to be able to access the storage from multiple places in the station. I have a crude system that allows that now to some degree, but it won't work quite as well once stacks are limited.

We would like for that to happen, yes. You may be doing sorting through the control block however, and not the individual cargo crates.

You can already do that by naming the storage, then use the drop down to find it from any other storage box. I doubt that would change if they are still going to use the same storage blocks.

Yeah, if they are keeping all the storage blocks functionality the same, which from the Q&A we've had here it seems pretty safe to say, the only things really changing are capacity & mass effect (wouldn't that be a cool name for a game? :P ) Not to trivialize that; there are a lot of knock-down effects to all kinds of aspects of the game from those changes, but it sounds like all the rules of sorting and interacting with storage are staying the same.

We did notice in another thread we all forgot to ask about the mass effect though, how is cargo mass going to be calculated? Any rough idea so we can start guestimating how much extra T/M we need?

Also, how is the system going to interact with the planned redshirt dispensers? ;)
