No, frell no! I've seen things go down the drain when going console (Minecraft, for example). I've noticed quality of ye olde stuff go down MAJORLY over the years with new games due to devs dumbing every damn thing down for consoles and new generations (difference between good old Fallout 1&2 and new and butchered Fallout 3, NV and 4).

Just finish Starmade on PC first, please. PC has always been the best platform for hardcore moddable space sim games.
StarMade on a console!?! *gets aneurysm*
OK, everyone calm down. Seriously. Your opinions matter to me, but at the same time, I don't want to start a flame war.

...Though, I suppose a flame war WOULD let me try out my latest weapon. Mischievous.png dVz2ZEx.jpg

What does I think ? Really nope nope nope...

I never understand why did PC games make a console edition... This is a little idiot... Imagine a complete aircraft simulator with the 15 buttons of the controler, just 'cause consoles are """ cool and better"""

PC games will never be the same that consoles' ones, and are far better in capacities.
I'm not saying consoles are sh*t, there're many good games on them. I just prefer paying $300-400 on a decent PC than on a PS or a XBox that will be like PS2 (today) in what... 5-10 years ? And for what ? FIFA or CoD ? Let me laught. (Yeah this is generalized xD)

One more argument : I can't imagine a really good indie game on console, this is a perfect utopia x)

Regardless of the technical or developmental aspects, has no one pointed out that a console game is a huge bureaucratic undertaking requiring significant resources and manpower to develop with significant limitations on what you can do and when? It's simply not feasible for Schine to take that kind of workload.

    I think

    1) not even time to discuss this, game is only in PC alpha, not even in beta
We do not know where the end product is going to be.
First the game would have to be complete, final, non beta, otherwise its a game of imaginations

    2) If simply specualting
If the final PC game was a financial success
    and
If the demand for a console version was high enough to be financially prudent
Then yes if the market is there, and there is a qualified team to port the game down to a console and
If it is feasibly possibly to do a reduced feature set of the game that would still be fun and playable
    Yea

    But back to 1)
we dont even know what the end result PC version is going to be like
It is entirely possible that you wouldnt be able to scale it down to console playability and be left with a fun game.
And the console world wont be joining PC servers, not possible for a large amount of reasons

I'm not really opposed to a console port in principal, but Schine is a pretty small team, so the time and effort it would take to port the game over would likely not be worth it. Especially because Starmade is a very PC specialised game, you can't really have the same level of user customizability (both with server settings and community content) on a console, which is a good chunk of the game's appeal gone right away. Game performance would probably be an issue too.

Starmade/bugmade is a keyboard and mouse game, and nothing more(might work with a controller with many changes, the main issue is build mode controls)

I agree with most people here, a console version doesn't seem like a good idea. There's plenty more to do on PC anyway; we're still very much in alpha. You can't even switch servers without completely restarting the game.

Schema's got a good thing going here and I don't really see a reason to fork development.

Sad.png Alright, alright, I get it... I'll stop posting here and we'll never speak of this again. It was a stupid idea trying to cram something as big as StarMade into a console. It's just... I was a console die-hard up until the end of 8th grade, and I know some people who still swear by consoles. I didn't want them to miss this experience. I thought it would be nice for them to experience (a diluted form of) the game.

Well, at least you were all honest. Like I said, I'm not going to bring this back up; let's bury this thread and forget this happened.

Oi... I doubt I'm going to live this down...

It'd literally be impossible. My custom rig will crash occasionally even with a ton of memory allocated to starmade. The most you could do in starmade on console would be opening your inventory, and MAYBE rearrange your items before crashing. Some games work very well on consoles but starmade is not one of them.

If they did make a console edition, don't make the same mistake Minecraft did. Make it so PC and console can play on the same server and are compatible. Don't divide the community.

Consoles are, for now, unable to handle a real sandbox game. Even minecraft needed to be nerfed to be playable...

This kind of game will not be console games before consoles' creators think for users and not profit or money.

There is not one single thing that consoles can do that PC's cant. There are a million things that PC's do that consoles can't. I really wonder why ANYONE uses consoles. They:

    -Cost more

    -have less games

    -have worse graphics

    -get outdated quickly

    -can't do anything besides games

    -usually not as good games

-console games are not as well supported

    -can't be upgraded

-controllers are the most awkward, fumbling things in existence

    -games are much more expensive

    -no free games

Why? What is good about consoles?

Couldn't see it happening, not to say consoles couldn't potentially run it fine or perhaps even better (much easier & more efficient to optimize a game when you have a hardware standard in mind). But while Terraria & Minecraft can easily have millions of regular players at any time, Starmade is not so universally accessible or appealing, and I doubt it ever could be without simply becoming a different game and alienating it's current playerbase.

Sad.png I'm abandoning this thread. It was a bad idea from the get-go and a waste of forum space...

Let's just grab a Molotov and kill this thread with fire.

Everybody knows that PC gamers hate (or at least don't like) console bias ;)

The whole console genre is now like the FPS one: falling in easy and violent and stupid games (just compare Old and new CoD, even if it's an american bias war game they was really better than new ones) :(

Guys, Guys, Guys, this isn't /r/PCMR. Let's keep the bashing of consoles to a minimum.

Although in theory this could be an interesting idea, the technology is literally impossible right now. The discussion has run it's course and it's been fleshed out.

Would there really be a market for it there??
Why play the watered down version on console when you can get the full experience on a computer (if you have a console you most likely have a computer)

Anything can be made to run on consoles as long it is ported and coded correctly, there would be a huge money making opportunity with consoles I know that the minecraft community on consoles would love to add this game to their collection but many of them not able to afford a pc these days, I myself was too see this game be released for consoles would immediately buy no questions asked be £15 or £50

This is manifestly untrue, there are hardware limitations... and consoles are strongly optimized to use their hardware in particular ways that many softwares won't play well with.

the minecraft community on consoles would love to add this game to their collection but many of them not able to afford a pc these days,
You would have had a point in the 90s or 00s, but these days for the price of the latest console you can build a PC that will beat it in performance for gaming AND be able to do other things that the console can't. And then there's the software prices, which used to be competitive back in the day but have ballooned out of control, especially when you consider that the majority of good PC games are either free or under $30. Consoles are not in any way the "cheap option" in the modern era.
