    Don't use a plan. Don't use a Cube. Don't make it a perfect Sphere.

Use a Center Planet Grave Well Block that pulls in all directions. Make it far larger then a normal block. Perhaps make this Planetary Grave Block start with a center normal size block surounded by a diamitor of 8, 16, 24 special Planitary Grav blocks. Let them be the only indistructible object ion the game or require special conditions to destroy.

This way, you can have your not so perfect (don't need to be any ways) spherical planet that branches out, block by block from the Grav well block diamitor core.

If you beleive it can\'t be done then you are not thinking.

Create a way to make it do-able.

LordWolfe is right, with behavor like those first 2 post, you will drive people away and will do it over insignificant things.

First of all, stop thinking in terms of a perect round sphere. This is a BLOCK world.

2nd Most \"round objects\" in a computer generated enviroment, are not actually round. The Curved edge is actually a bunch of triangles bunched together in a very tight manner to make it look like it is round. In a block world, you simple keep adding LOTS and LOTS of blocks till when you look at it, it looks pretty well rounded. And as a BLOCK world, it is resonably expected that there will be jagged edges, muchlike how earlier videogames and current games without supped up videocards without AA look, so don\'t go thinking in terms of perfect spherical planet shape.

3rd, it is perfectly possible to make a center block surrounded by a diamiter of blocks as a grave well that pulls in all directions with a diminising pull the further out you go. If you really think it is not possible to program that in, then you arn\'t a programmer or your skills are subpar and your too lazy to figure it out.

Creating a way to make it doable would be creating a new game engine based around spherical planets.. just let it go, and everybody else who thinks that there is a better solution than oreo

and trust me the way you suggest it to be just wouldn\'t be right

You only need a grav well mechanic with a imprefect spherical grav pull diminising over distance with a max distance limit effect orignating from a center point. You don\'t need any where near a new engine for that.

    \"You only need a grav well mechanic...\"

The gravity is the part that won\'t work, not the way the blocks are placed, as in the news message, you see he already spoke of a cubic planet with no gabs, but the gravity will not work properly for it.

your idea of adding more blocks just to make it look round sounds fanatic in this game engine, yes it will look round but won\'t work

Wasn\'t it said that while spherical planets are possible it would not be worth the trouble to code them for such a niche group of complainers as it does not actually add anything new to the gameplay but complicates things needlessly?

You people clearly are not programmers and clearly have not worked with 3D models and how coding for vectors, points and other stuff work. You are speaking in terms of the blocks you see in game and you think you know what a gaming engine is or how this engine is working.

If you really beleive you can\'t create a center point with a distance diminising pull effect inside of a center block or set of blocks and actually beleive that adding layers of layers of blocks over that center point block is forcing something to work that wont, then you truly don\'t have a clue or worse, you are here with intentional purpose as to sabotage this communities effort to make this game.

many of us may not be \"programmers\" in the right sense but we do have a clue and make our estimate picture of what the engine can and cant do, especially when the game has been written in java and is similar to minecraft

not being offensive, just I can\'t understand why do people still bother to make threads about this planetary stuff, it is just one part of the game and the game engine has not been designed around this particular part, literally perfect games in every aspect are yet to come in future {or maybe not?}, for many reasons \"oreo\" planets seem to be the best solution for this game, just deal with it and prioritize over many other more important things that need work

Heh, nich group my butt... if so many people are asking for a rounded or round like planet that often then it has to do with the fact that most people in the world are used to and expecting a rounded like planet and not doing it will make this game suffer.

So many games come with invisable effects that the player never will see. The invisable trigger points for a trap in an RPG or FPS, the actual numbers of an enemy agrovation system, the gravity effect that allows your character to walk on land in an FPS or RTS, the point to point or vecter paths of an NPC walking path.

Making a center point for gravity for a planet should be easy. You dont need to bend a plane or a cube. You just need a center point and layer on top of it.

If you can\'t do that, then you are lazy.

You have to balance the time to impliment and the gain from doing so. In this case, the time and work required to make functional and practical round planets just isn\'t worth it. The current planets work just fine.

And yes, I am a programmar.

As a programmer myself, I can say that Schema is correct that sphere-ish planets is more trouble that it\'s worth. Not to mention, it would also be too resource hungry to make the calculations, not everyone has $2k+ to blow on a high end machine.

Respectfully I would say, if you want sphereical planets, then go write your own game. Don\'t just QQ about what you want, then moan and groan when you are denied that golden spoon you feel entitled too.

\"it has to do with the fact that most people in the world are used to\"

alright, you want to go like this?

I am not usually used to a blocky world like this, or I am not used to die and magically respawn on top a chunk of metal, by this logic - this game, and many other games are pretty much dead.. unless you are willing to accept the fact that it is a game and games are games, and they aren\'t perfect yet and probably never will be unless they invent virtual reality

It\'s about what games actually can AFFORD to have implemented in them, without sacrificing something else

as some guys have put it \"it\'s not worth the trouble\", because you don\'t have infinite resources to make everything perfect

Wow, resource hungry to have a set venter point, with a few lines of code that have a pull effect, with a max radius range limit with a few lines of code telling it to have a diminising mathmatical effect more resource hogging then a block universe where every block is interactable?

    I\'m not buying that.

To much trouble to make? When it would be easy to have its diamitor the same size or even smaller then the current disk planets and you have a lot of those disk planets already?

    I wont buy that either.

No, it is laziness at this point.

Make your own game then. You clearly don\'t like this one how it is and the direction it is going, so leave us be and go make your own game. Just don\'t come crying back when you realize its not as easy as you think it is.

still talking about laziness and few lines of code?

you just don\'t seem to have read the other planetary complaint threads where schema himself replied why certain solutions are wrong and more trouble than gain

and still to think of it, even if it was laziness then this game is not being programmed by a popular game-producing company , you can\'t say nothing yet unless schema starts charging 30 bucks just to play the game in this state
