well the 3rd person is really bad in starmade but you can still shoot anywhere on screen, even though it's a bit off target. so if you're fighting smaller ships, just zoom out and try to lock on with that off target shot, and you'll have a much easier time hitting them with you're main weapons, instead of turning all about in 3rd person
