Some Questions About Factories

I recently started playing starmade again, and I'm trying to figure out all these changes.
I'm a bit confused about the changes to factories.

[#1.] What does the drop down menu in a factory input do?

[#2.] What are Refinery blocks for?

[#3.] Are there any recipes or other (Non-Mining) ways to get ores or shards? (Example "Hital Ore" or "Sintyr Shard")
I can't seem to find them in the shop.

[#4.] Which is more efficient at producing materials? Factories or Catalog Cloning?

Those are features of the New factory System, which isnt finished Yet. In the next update or two, they will be useful, but they are just placeholders for now.

New Crafting systems are kinda still unknown to the common folk though, so we dont know how refineries will work or whatnot - 3-
