It\'s worth noting that if you try to build a bigass main weapon battery out of thousands and thousands of single AMCs, you may run into performance problems. I observed the game freezing for a fraction of a second as I added or removed AMCs from the CPU, and freezing for a fraction of a second when I clicked to fire once, and the game slowing down, even slowing drastically, when I held down the fire button, with around 2450 AMCs (IIRC, going by memory instead of recalculating how many) linked to a single CPU.
I would advise using larger blocks of AMCs on capital ships\' main batteries. The energy costs will be greater (since it scales with blocks rather than DPS), and your DPS will be lower if you had the same amount of AMCs (you\'ll have more, because you fill the space more efficiently with AMCs), but you won\'t cause tons of lag, and you\'ll also have higher projectile speeds, which is especially beneficial for a human gunner who has to aim at moving targets (the AIs don\'t need as much help in this regard).
You can make up for the lost DPS by simply adding additional weapons to compensate - and some will already have been compensated for as more of the space will be filled with AMCs if you, let\'s say, divide a large 7x7 barrel up into 7x7x9 blocks with a 7x7x1 spacer of shield gens than would have been if you had checkerboarded single AMCs and shield blocks (e.g. instead of 50% of the space being AMCs, 90% is). Obviously if you wanted to keep anything displaced from there it would wind up somewhere else in the design and still take up mass, and effectively you\'re just having more mass and more AMCs but packing more AMCs into an area than before (but may still need additional area to do the same or better DPS).
Assume a 5x10x10 block of AMCs: You have 500 AMCs there, and according to your data, 6774.85 DPS.
If it were filled with checkerboarded single AMCs instead, you would have 250 AMCs, each doing 25.3/0.6524 DPS, for a total of (25.3/.6524)*250 DPS, which is 9694.97240956 DPS, which 143% the DPS of the large 500-AMC block. You can also see that the single AMCs would only use half as much e/sec when firing.
The 500-block gun fires projectiles which are four times faster, however.
Projectile speed and performance impacts from massive single-amc lagcannons are the main reasons I\'ve found to take the DPS and energy hit and simply add more blocks of AMCs and energy production or storage to make up for it.
