After a quick google search, 0x10c does sound similar to StarMade in thorey but they are certinly different games.

Notch, the guy who made minecraft - started a project called 0x10^c (existence?) but went dark with it. He's sold off minecraft to MS, so where is he now and why is this game's architecture so similar?

Not nocking it, just wondering how a game like this is funded, gives itself away and manages to be deeply cool out of nowhere =)

    0x10c subtract 80s style and 16 bit in-game computers = StarMade

It looks like they were aiming for a realistic tone, so I suspect that in addition to "creative roadblocks", they were probably running face-first into insurmountable simulation complexities.

0x10c was scrapped. Besides Starmade is way better than the demos I've seen for that game.

0x10C-like programming features are planned in the far future for this game, but not quite to the extent that 0x10C was supposed to have them. So, eh, sort of, is the answer to this question.

They both take place in space, that's about where the similarities end.

Notch did explain this on his blog. Basically, he didn't like the pressure that comes with working on huge projects when you've become a public figure. You can read his full statement at http://notch.tumblr.com/. I couldn't find a permalink, but it doesn't look like that blog is going to receive any more updates.

Notch is a weakling who can't handle pressure. That's why he canceled 0x10c and sold Minecraft to Microsoft.

This game is older and far better than 0x10c anyway.

Notch is a weakling who can't stop going on vacations. That's why he canceled 0x10c and sold Minecraft to Microsoft.
    Fixed that for you.

I'm kidding of course, he's a weakling just as you said (the vacations thing is true too though). The dude has no sense of direction on top of that. I'm not trying to wank hard for Schine or anything, but they're a hell of a lot more structured in terms of development compared to Mojang. 0x10c is vaporware.

Didn't he live stream a lot of the development for it, and cancel it because people stole the code and pieced a lot of it back together?

And to be fair, he knew he sucked at being a real game dev, thats why he sold it, he outlined it all on his blog at notch.net

if I can recall, the cloaked was once called the "0c Cloaker" in honor of the 0x10c but again I'm only going off what was on the old wiki.

Yeah, we had the 0c cloaker and the 10x radar jammer. IIRC these designations can still be found on the textures.

Comparing 0x10c to Starmade? Nah, not very similar. Corneroids is more similar.
Compared to Corneroids, 0x10c is more complex, and just as dead. Trillek is less dead; but is either slow, on ice, or dead.
