    Just as an informational topic, i have made a turret with 5000 AMC's. I have it set for a shooting distance of 2500 meters and as long as the target is listed in your navigation chart the turret will fire at within the targiting distance. Even with lowering the reload rate and increasing bullet speed it still cuts through the biggest ships like butter straight to the core.



    Here is a ship i just started working on, putting the turret inside the ship rather on the outside, giving it more protection.

    ignore the ugly, still in early production and i have never worked on a ship this big :D

    But the turret runs the length of the ship and core is protected right in the middle. This could be a good stratigy to put in fleets.. have long range ships escorted by fighters.

    this is basically an exploit of the 100% accuracy of turrets?

    Its an exploit of getting past the draw distance barrier in most combat. and putting the firing distance stat to some actual good use.

    I\'ve used this mechanic a few times in my favor (And get called quite a few names for it).

    I find that exceeding 1500 range is a bit excessive; most ships are able to easily strafe at that point. Against unwary targets though, it\'s a real terror.

    why not set it to aim at target. though this can cause problems if you target for navigation purposes

    This is something I must investigate. Does it clip through the sides when you are not pointing directly at a target? Or does it just ram the tube it\'s in?

    When it was just 3 layers it kinda ghosted through the ship itself and still fired fine. Just dosent rotate past a 45 degree angle. Will do more testing when I have the chance

    is to dock it in a green \"ship\" dock, instead of the red turret dock. It won\'t rotate anymore, but it will still be able to shoot in a decent angle, especially if you\'re interested in extreme-range combat.

    I have several cannons mounted on my ship this way and they do excellent work.

    One thing to note, is a glitch that causes the targeting circle disappear and the cannon to shoot in 90 degrees upwards when attached to a sideways facing dock.

    Upwards facing docks are fine. They\'ll give you a forward facing weapon and no glitches.

    Also note, that the 100% turret accuracy bug will be fixed sooner or later, and you\'ll find your sniper cannon\'s effective range severely limited when that happens. In the meantime however, it\'s a very interesting idea. Perhaps weapon accuracy should become an adjustable stat on the weapon computer, rather than a global server setting...

    Fantastic! I wish I knew that LOL as its a pain to dock that thing. And accuracy loss will be ok, still shoud hit enough to drop shields and do damage at range hopefully.

    uhh yeah I was playing on NASS, and some guy parked a giant sniper minigun outside my home base and, because it was literally 3500 blocks away the shots clipped through my home base and spawncamped me.

    And thats why NASS now has spawncamp protection.

    If I remember right I think there already is some minor spawn protectionon starmade.

    Also the ship docking trick was perfect! Ship is near completeion. I just wish I was good at making room for any interior decoration...
