before I was making lot of ships all more than 100-200 meters and now I m trying to do ships like 40-50 meters

and they are pretty powerfull because I power optimise all stuff in so I can get much firepower, much thrust, much shields and nice control room and well protected

    some examples:

One of the reasons small ships don\'t get around too much is becasue people get carried away. About a month ago Tried to build a \'fighter\'

It ended up being 50-something meters long and turning as slow as crap.

Some people are incapable of small, effective things.

Remember small doesn\'t mean 10m long or anything. The ships you have there have large masses. Fighters should be small, 50 mass or less if you go by some of the ship class guides posted here. Some of your ships are 800 mass, which makes them cruiser-ish in size. Which isn\'t exactly small. XD

Small ships are meant to be Fast, hard to hit, not tough. You expect to hold enough shields on a small ship that you can survive a dreadnought? Nope. But you CAN get around it\'s weapons, and turrets, and destroy them one by one.

I wouldn\'t really worry about exposed components tbh, if your shields drop a layer hull isn\'t going to save you from taking some component damage. The best bet is to mitigate damage by not taking any, and to do this, being very small and very agile is the way to go.

A good pilot who knows how to abuse turret targeting in a agile ship with decent firepower and enough shields to take a couple hits, given enough time, can probably solo any of the hideously overbuilt capital ships out there.

And, now that I think about it, Even with the missile nerf, a small ship could still easily disable a craft\'s turrets with a few well timed missiles.

Components are 100 hp, no armor.

Hull is 100 and 25% armor, essentially 125 hp, which should stop a shot or two from fighters. Of course something that small is not going to survive large ships shooting at it.

Hardened hull is 200 hp and 50% armor, so essentially hardened hull has 400 hp. This will stop some larger ship\'s shots.

So yes, hull and hardened hull will prevent some component damage. Combined with speed, hull will help save a fighter in a tough spot.

I am not a big fan of piloting cannon fodder or dead whales. So, I create my own fast, sleek, and somewhat impressive ships. A new ship will roll of my production line as soon as my dry dock is big enough, a jamming frigate capable of getting behind enemy ships and blending in with the terrain. The hull is easy to replace and repair, and good luck piloting your held tech democles so you can shoot at it. Another version is designed for fleet or stand alone tactics with a few drones, extra armor, and enough turrets to make you cry.

the small ship is not dead, but is only lying in wait for the right time to strike.

P.S. disguise your ship as an asteroid and they will never know what hit them. It\'s hilarious.

The problem is, its much better to just stack more shields on a fighter until you hit 256+ at which point you flip over to 1 second recovery vs half second. Each shield will provide more protection than hardened hull for the mass it adds. You need to keep small ships.. small, or else you lose the manuverability benefits and turning speed and then you might as well just make them bigger

I prefer smaller ships as they really damage the massive ships :). I love hanging on their 6, like a crocodile chewing on a fat lady\'s ass. The best bit is when the owners of the large ships have a cry, like little girls on PvP games when you kill them off. ;)

All you have to do to make the small-ship maneuverability advantage disappear is throw your large ship\'s engines in full reverse. And even if you don\'t, you are a terrible frigate designer if you don\'t have turrets covering your 6.

These comments and ships are all great! I hope this compels more people to show off their designs. I personally love the asteroid idea, I think thats hilarious, really it is. Another great example of small but neat ships are the Ray Fighter by @Cybertooth, and the line of ships created by @Yhgi117. Keep up the great work guys!

ok then make a ship with only 6000 blocks (40 meters) that have 8 missiles array that goes 300 kph by default, 12 anti matters cannons that by default does 120 damage each, with 100K shields, and thrust = 3xmass and protected control room by 3, 4 hardened hull

with it I took down a 150 meters ship today btw

I just uploaded a small fighter using one of the classifications, it\'s < 50 mass and is capable of being a nuisance to cap ships. Width is < 15m so it can dock in larger bays quite easily.

Heres a link to my shippyard, youll notice a lot of small ships there. I suppose \"small\" depends on how you class ships though, is the Isanth a mothership?
