I'm new to StarMade, and your ships look awesome!
I have two questions:
Do you have a newer Starfury?
How do you work?
Or, what do I have to do, to build my own Starfury in SMEdit?
Which older Version do I need to work with SMEdit?
Well, I don't use Smedit for fighters or anything thats not really large. The Starfury has been updated I will post a newer picture of it when I get the chance.
And my work flow usually consists of the following:
~ Find Ortho views of spacecraft
~ Get the AOG Data sheet for said spacecraft if there is one. (Since I am doing Babylon 5, there are tons of data sheets)
~ Layout frame work according to the dimensions
~ Fill in and add smoothing if needed
~ I then chop out blocks for power, shields, weapons, lights/crystals, while keeping it looking like it's supposed to, or damn close to it.
My other ships I just free form, it may start off as a weapon or logic testing platform and then I look at it, add blocks here n there and just sculpt with blocks till I get something interesting going. Thats how the Sun Runner and Rift-Seeker and a few others came to be. I'll also work with Blender, since I do that a lot anyway, and if I come up with something worthy, THAT is when I will use Smedit to convert my design over and import to Starmade.
Now, for thee much larger ships of Babylon 5, I'll usually make a low poly model from the Ortho Views in Blender (or get perms from someone who already has done one, if its good) and use Smedit, Why? some ask? well, I am doing 300+ ships from a lot of factions and it's me, and 2 others working on them, and on top of all that, I run custom configs on my server and textures that suit the Babylon 5 Universe, lol and last but not least, I am also laying out all the points and gates and planets, etc. that is in the Babylon 5 Universe. So yeah, there are those that scoff at Smedit, but ya know, I could care less...I have a ton to do and real life stuff going on, which gives me a small window of working on things. But by the time I am done, I will have a True Babylon 5 Universe (server) complete with the actual jump gates, locations, factions, Ships, etc, etc. :D
Sorry if that explanation is long winded....
Edit: Forgot to answer a couple questions: I use the newer Smedit (should be a thread in the 3rd party mod section I think) with Starmade version 0.19174 Build 20150319_050107
I rename the main folder to Starmade_4Smedit and have the corresponding other folders,
ie:
C:\StarMade_4Smedit\StarMade\
note: in the Starmade_4Smedit folder is the Starmade launcher and do not update when asked.
then just download and put the Smedit into the starmade folder and when you start Smedit just tell it where its operating from, ya know the pathing.... ie: C:\Starmade_4Smedit\Starmade\
and that should be it, also You may want to be aware I only use that to get my binvoxed Blender obj's into a block format and to move the core around and sometimes paint.
Alert: A lot of people just don't remember or understand that to use that Smedit you
MUST LOAD A BLUEPRINT FIRST! usually it auto loads a large ship but I delete that and use a much smaller ship, since its less memory load on the program. But once you load a blueprint, you are then fine to import to your hearts content.
